Dangermouse
Seeing as nobody is joining in with your perfectly reasonable thread: I agree, there's something appealing about getting the job done - once is enough - and then bailing out. He has achieved what he needs to and appreciates that he will always lose to Hamilton in a straight fight. There's more to life... Most drivers seem to forget that racing is meant to be enjoyable and in F1 at present in particular you see precious few demonstrably happy to be there. Perhaps if he were minded a wee switch to sports cars would rekindle the enjoyment as it has in so many others these last few years.

He reminds me a bit of Damon Hill - both seemed to have a personal need to emulate their fathers but had no fire left once that was achieved. Also, neither really seemed to have whatever the form of ego is that's required to be a long-term F1 racer. All are petulant but most seem to channel it into arrogance; Rosberg just came across as petulant. I suspect this was due to the self-knowledge that what you say about Hamilton is true. He's been miserable trying to beat the better driver, why put himself through that once more when the engines are unlikely to explode again in his favour, and when he has family and a shedload of Euros. phart
Yeah it's fair play. Very few walk out before their lack of competitiveness takes them out.
biffer
I also like to think there's a wee bit of two fingers to Hamilton, deliberately not giving him the chance to beat Rosberg next season.
