I would agree and I'm now thinking it's a case of Snodgrass or Armstrong - no room for both since Snodgrass is too slow for the wing.

Snoddy has done no bad on the wing before but if needs must then I'd probs go with Armstrong as he gets about the pitch well.

You've got some bizarre views IMO. Snodgrass' best position is on the wing.

He's good on the wing, just paceless - tho he makes up for that with his strength and ability to shield and keep the ball.

Ideally, I'd play him as a withdrawn forward to allow our speedy players to play on the wing.

A team needs to have balance and yes, part of that is pacey players. If we have Burke or Forrest or Anya on the opposite wing, then there's no issue having Snoddy wide.

Probably just as well cos it's likely to be too big a game for Burke.

Eh? A friendly against Canada in front of a few thousand Scots is too big a game for a kid playing at the top of the Bundesliga?

Presumably you're being sarcastic and I've just been whooshed?

Yes I was being sarcastic given Strachan made similar comments when Burke was left out for the Slovakia game.

Why compromise? We have Burke, Fraser, Phillips, (and yes) Forrest all better suited to a wide role. Remember Slovakia? Snodgrass is important for set pieces and an ability to get in the box and score, but it's too easy for opposition full backs to go roving up the park if there's no threat behind them. We need to stop being easy touches and set up in a way that worries the opposition. It's delusional to ignore how vital pace is in today's game.

I'm sorry but Snodgrass is a better wide player than every man you mentioned. Being a fast runner doesn't make you a great player.

It does help explain your love for the ineffectual Barrie McKay though.

Snodgrass  is better playing off a striker. He may be good offensively on the wing (after a fashion) but he can't beat a man readily (Slovakia) and he can't get keep up with an opposition counter attack (Slovakia).

Wee Barrie will play central too, in time, because that's his natural position. His electric pace will make him especially good there (just as it does Armstrong).

It's a scream, right enough. Anyhoo, what do we think about Naismith at right back?

Too slow. We'd be better seeing if Johann Blake is Scottish eligible.

Speed is a valuable asset though.See Robben,Ribery,Costa from Bayern.Dembele Pulisic from Dortmund.I like Snoddy but i dont see him or Matt Ritchie as a winger.Burke and Fraser for me.

Snodgrass wouldn't start for me. He's not done much since going to West ham and was shocking in the last 3 games for us. The 3 in behind Rhodes would be Fraser, Armstrong and Phillips (if fit) for me. Will never happen mind you.

Fraser, Armstrong and Burke behind Rhodes would be my choice.

thats far too radical for Strachan

Actually like the look of that, would maybe change McArthur for Brown, given McArthurs lack of game time recently. Would be happy to see that vs Slovenia as well. Plenty of pace in there

Something like this would be ok

..........................Gordon

......Anya.......Martin.....Berra....Tierney/Robertson (could flip a coin on that one)

..............Morrison...Armstrong

........Phillips.......Cairney...... Snodgrass

........................Rhodes

What I expect Strachans team to closer resemble

..........................Gordon

.....Martin....Hanley....Mulgrew...Tierney/Robertson (again, that one could be decided on a coin toss)

................Morrison...Brown

......Anya........Snodgrass......Burke

.......................Martin

His lack of a recognized RB says to me he does plan to use Anya and/or Martin there at some point over the two games, unless he plans to roll out that stupid formation he tried against Gibraltar where he flooded the midfield and left us over exposed at the back.
