Celtic, Hearts & St Johnstone.
Scotty CTA
Aye, The Rangers will need a little longer than that.
adamntg
So ironic that the story next to this on the BBC was that Celtic have hoovered up another £20m for qualifying for the Champions League. Why does nobody at UEFA see what they're doing to our game?
SMcoolJ
"Aberdeen have struggled in Europe for the last few years". How utterly ignorant!! It's not worth getting into the Europa League. It's literally more hassle than it's worth.

I agree with Alex Rae, Aberdeen should've done better, with an undertone of look what's happened to Scottish football because of what you all did to Rangers. iainmac1
If they scrapped the group stages and just did a knockout competition they wouldn't have to start so early. Everyone in the pot, no seeding, 2 legged knockout competition. Perhaps with one preliminary round of the lowest ranked nations to get the numbers to sync. I like that idea Wasn't that how European football competition was like up until the late eighties or early nineties ? Anyone else think we should consider bringing back the Cup Winner's Cup (under a different name) with half of the current Europa League going into that competition instead ? Whilst we are on the subject, scrap the pre-match anthem, the special Champions League/Europa League badges cluttering up shirts and that mutilation of the shirt numbers that is mandatory for Euro competitions too. Guest BlueGaz
Would be 100 x better. Champions go into draw for round 1 of European Cup, 2nd go into draw for round 1 of UEFA Cup and your premier cup winners go into draw for round 1 of a Cup Winners Cup. Straight draw, 2 legs, winners take the trophy. But not as much money involved as there is in current format, because the big teams won't play anywhere near as many games, so it will never happen. sbcmfc
Could certainly meet in the middle though. Champions league stays as it is. Europa league goes to a straight knock out format. Reduces the amount of games, which might also mean teams tread it more seriously, as it's less of a burden.
jailender
The whole purpose of the Europa League is to give more money to the bigger teams, and associations, who don't get through in the Champions League. All about preserving the status quo, and keeping the big guys happy.
Reevesy
They UEFA cup was ruined when they started letting non champions into the "Champions" league.

Its the English league cup of European competitions.

I believe that';s how UEFA would like it to be, but they're not in charge of European football.....around 16 clubs with the financial clout are. If we went back to the old way....the way that the vast majority of football fans Europe-wide want....then these 16 clubs would simply quir UEFA, form their own European league and sell their own TV rights. That's why we have this nonsense. Simply so 12 or 16 clubs can corner 99% of the money each season.

Which, after a few years, probably won't be watched by anyone outside supporters of those clubs. And "supporters" in Asia. I'd rather be watching a more competitive tournament, with different teams entering every year. I'd guess that most people in Europe would be the same. After Christmas, a now defunct club - which finished third in it's 2007/08 Champions League group - dropped down to the UEFA Cup and eventually got themselves into that years final in Manchester. A fixture which sadly is remembered for all the wrong reasons. Don't you remember ?
