Footballers Other Jobs

Recommended Posts

Out of boredom I was thinking today. Other than the guys we grew up watching play fitba', what other jobs did they do before/during their careers?

I remember John Colquhoun being a painter. Don McVicar of Saints being a postie. Rab Douglas a brickie.

I remember watching that Nat Fraser thing and seeing him. Recognised the face but couldnt place him. Annoyed the fck out of me for months trying to work out where I knew him from. Finally read an article about him and the penny dropped.

He also runs the youth teams at Partick.

Article here but bear in mind its a Daily Mail article so be prepared for Romanian gypsies being blamed for him being ugly.

Willie Pettigrew used to work in Asda in Hamilton.

Alex Burns is in the police.

Stevie "studs" McMillan is a car salesman, he took my mate a test drive.

Keith Lasley is an electrician, I'm hoping he can put up an outside light for me on Saturday afternoon.

Worst tackle I ever saw in the flesh was Don McVicar on Alec Cleland (I think) at Tannadice.  Straight red card back in the day when you generally didn't get sent off unless you pulled a knife on someone.

He died young, didn't he?

Something like that.

Frank McDougall owned Frank Mcdougall's sports bar in Aberdeen.

Yes it was the Franchise for the McD's restaurant that Grant owns.

Did McDougall not try get involved with the 2014 World Cup and now runs a football school in Brazil?

Lee Wilkie works/ed for a music label in Dundee (Riverman Music who have Placebo on their books) when I spoke with him a few months ago.

Killie legend, met him last season in Glasgow with Dylan Kerr.

McGowan was Dundee United's biggest ever wage-thief.  I believe we were paying him something like £6k a week or something and he was utter, utter gash.

An even bigger than Derek McInnes was for us, and that's no mean feat.

Alex Cropley was a taxi driver in Edinburgh for years, haven't seen him recently though.
