Guest faircity
Nothing really memorable in Klaipeda at all. Though if you are bored take the ferry across to the wee strip of land just opposite, to Nida. Quiet wee place but nice all the same. Beaches are fantastic too, im sure the weather will still be pretty good at the start of September.
Capital Saint
Klaipeda is a fair distance from Kaunas. But it's more of a port than a resort apart from what has already been said (Nida). Alternatively, a bit further north is Palanga or the smaller resort of Šventoji. I had few days in Šventoji 3 or 4 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
