Yes, Lee Wallace is there on merit.

Wallace shouldn't be included either. Not sure what your point is.

Shinnie should be in the squad, but it shouldn't be to "please the locals", it should be because he deserves it.

For which position?

Midfield or left back, if Strachan is intent on having 3 of them.

He's deserving of being in the squad over Lee Wallace.

Shinne is one of many midfielders who should have been in the last squad instead of John McGinn

bias against all things hibs related comes through again. shinnie is not a midfielder for a start, maybe you are getting confused with his brother lolz

Agree came on and did more as did Griffis  in 10 min ,  I think  Strachan  keeps him  in squad to get more experience and train with better players as Hibs are playing in  a poorer league  (just)  and he has great  potential ( like so many others at his age).

No bias against Hibs.

Once Hibs are back in the SPL, if he performs well, then he may be worth a place.

To be fair though - McLean and Shinnie have performed well at a higher level this season and aren't in the frame. therefore, seems strange that McGinn is IMO

  • 3 weeks later...

A bit daft that in my opinion, if we assume the squad will be the same as the last one:

- the Championship finishes on May 7th - 13 players will go 5 weeks without a game

- Hibs finish on May 6th - add John McGinn to that list.

- Bundesliga, Scottish Premiership and English Premier League finish on May 20th/21st - 8 players will have 3 weeks with no game.

- Celtic finish May 27th with the Cup Final - 6 players.

So, there's only really going to be 6 players who are relatively match fit. Surely there's a case for playing on June 3rd/4th.

This could be quite important in terms of how the players look after their fitness, diet and alcohol intake after a long season. You'd guess the England players in particular will be getting pished after the EPL finishes as they'll expect to stroll the game at Hampden.

Playing English Championship players doesn't seem like a great idea unless they're in the playoffs. There's not much choice with the central defence, with 2 out of Martin, Mulgrew (if fit), Berra and Hanley.

English Championship players in the playoffs playing to the end of May likely to include Fletcher, Rhodes, Bannan, Cairney and Chris Martin, though if they go up they'll also be getting pished for a week.

If that's the life of our Professional Footballers then no wonder we are pish.
