Tamb - where did it all go wrong?

The "Vote for my daughter" thread was quality.

I had to point out the elephant in the room on that one.I.E. how mental it all was.

The best TAMB time was the Kraigh incident, aye i still dont know how to spell it.

The funniest was Jimbers "TAMB Story" which happened live, and also the Buchanan Bus Stop Girl.

The most ill-advised was "someone" who decided to ask the board for advice as his bird complained he was lazy in bed. Had to enter the TAMB witness protection system and get a new username.

Mazz with her "free the big ginger Ride" comment had me pissing myself as did Brants "Duke Street badminton boys" and i think it was G-man that made a sign and went into the loch in a wet-suit to hold it up for the guys wedding gift.

In fact @brant grebner you need to write the song buchanan bus stop girl in the form of Stewart Lee's Galway Girl.

Does anyone remember the Classic from Amsterdam when one of the guys was (tongue in cheek but sounded so serious) asking about the the protocols and best timing for the red light district ? I was having lunch at my desk in Manchester and catching up with tinternet - and fell off my chair - never had a fit of the giggles like that for a long time and don't think I have done since - tickled me for days afterwards.

The lad that posted that was from Jersey, posted as "Cerise Kilt", IHMO it was the funniest post ever made on TAMB.

Just searched for it but it appears to have faded away in time, perhaps one of the mods can retrieve it, it would have been a few days before the WC qualifier in 2009 if that helps narrow it down, would love to read that again

edited to say, didn't there used to be an archive search function for old posts?

Does anyone remember the time Helen Donegan (rip) didn't log out in some hotel in Bari (I think) and someone posted as her?

Round about 2006 when I first started posting on here, there was definitely a lot more friendliness on these boards.

That's true, I suspect more people actually knew and socialised with each other back then. It could be cliquey at times, but it was usually fairly open and welcoming. It's always easier to be dismissive of someone's opinion when you haven't met them in person I suspect.

That would definitely be the case but has it got bad on here really? There is the occasional brusque comment but nothing too bad.

Thanks for that, but still can't find it, found the username but just comes up with no posts found, thanks anyway.

Aye Jim. CK's post was lost ages ago. Used to be if you googled "Red Light Etiquette" it was the first hit.

It was indeed the funniest post ever in my opinion.

He's in Madrid at the moment on holiday or I'd get him to recreate it!

It did feel welcoming back then ... to a total outsider like me, at least. There was a varied bunch of regular posters who made this (anything goes) forum in particular a genuinely interesting and amusing place to spend time; almost all of them have moved on now or still hang around but post much more infrequently.

If you look at the board that died in 2014, you can get back to threads from 2008 (although the earliest are atypical as they were all locked, and for some reason the locked threads have survived whatever cull rid the archive of all those that died a natural death). I don't know if this link will work, but if it does, it'll take you back to locked threads from the non-TA football forum of 2008. As I say, it's far from a fair selection since they were all locked, but they show a couple of things: some folk haven't changed a fat lot in nine years, and the board was far more tightly moderated back then.

Edit: Another page of locked threads from '08: I've only glanced at a couple, but Wrighty's (remember him?) 'Aberdeen Fans' thread shows how little has changed in that forum.

Not enough people arrange to meet up for a fight with someone they've never met. Defienetly been lacking that here.

oh god got lost in that. Larky hasn't changed a bit, Jesus Christ. Good old mention of when Larky claimed to have software to trace Kernie. I've only looked at 2 of the pages and it's already a treasure trove. Also it's just before the cup-final. So at the moment i'm like 8 days out from the UEFA final. It's a golden age of TAMB schadenfreude coming up for me.

They banned ek-celt the night before the final for 3 days and won't say why lol.

I forgot we had some people that used to just start threads about people.

Also in 2008 Cove Sheep thought Thplinth was a mod.

Aye for about 3 years as well. To be fair for about 5 years every debate on here ended up by someone calling me either; Mental, Gay or thplinth. I just knew they were hurting cause their argument was pish and got ripped to shreds, so I magnanimously allowed it. ;)

I am a mod. I've been telling you that for years.  Amazing how many bought that. (Double bluff obviously I am a mod how else could I still be here?! Nothing else makes sense of it.) i think you are missing a few out Phart. Are you not also a virgin Kuhnto or words to that effect? Ally bear pm'ing for a square go was memorable. I wonder if longshanks is still planning on hunting me down and giving me a doing. Ahhhh good times...

I read this forum for several years before I ever joined it. Used to browse it whilst doing my homework and often browsed it during Info Systems classes.

If my memory is right was the "Vote for My Daughter" thread not about a father wanting votes for his daughter in a modelling contest or something ? She then got a couple of dirty e-mails and her father angrily posted threats that he was personally going to track down whoever was responsible and give them a doing ?

Also remember there were two Old Firm fans called "Ron" and "TartanBhoy", the former was a proud unionist and unashamed Tory voter from Fife who supported Rangers (?) and the latter was a somewhat hyper Celtic fan who saw anti-Celtic plots and intrigue all over the place (?) Both fiercely hated each other and had a running series of highly personal feuds, both ultimately got banned didn't they ?

And didn't the SFA once have a media rep with an account on the TAMB ? They would respond to queries and criticism on the likes of ticket sales, travel information, merchandise, supporter behaviour, matchday catering and facilities ?

A mate of mine (Rangers fan) read the forum too and registered two accounts which ended well ...........

One he made a few posts with during the latter end of the 2007-08 season. Have taken a look for them in the archived threads mentioned from 2008 but can't find them. Can't remember what his username was, think it was something like "TheTartanGer". Anyway he got banned on the night they lost the final in Manchester. He was very emotional and posted after someone taking the pish when the final whistle went "this is not the time for you to be cheeky with me because I am not in the mood" and then after someone else replied with more pish taking he posted "if you weren't behind that computer screen I'd knock your face back into last week". Next day he found his username and password weren't recognised anymore.

The other one he had was called "Gazzah" I'm fairly sure. He had a run in during in 2008 with someone (I'm positive it was Cove Sheep, wonder if he remembers ?) over a thread entitled "Good News For Rangers Fans With Kids" about plans to introduce a British oath of allegiance for schoolchildren. After a couple of strongly worded posts involving the then poor form of Jimmy Calderwood's Aberdeen team and accusing the entire Aberdeen support of rampant bestiality - this account too was closed forever. I distinctly remember that episode because we were in a classroom at the time, I was sitting right next to him, looking on as he angrily typed his reply.

He's a plumber now.

Yep. A good few times there were tears streaming down my face reading his posts.
