For most it is about being able to govern your own country and choose your own destiny. For some it is about Scottish Nationalism.

Understood.  Take. Back. Control. Textbook.

The SNP had a 26% gap over their nearest rivals in 2015 when 50% voted SNP versus 24% for Labour. If the polls are to be believed, the Labour vote in Scotland has held firm and there's been a 10% swing from SNP to Tory.

what has happened is 10% swung from Labour to Tories and now a swing from SNP to Labour .. i know quite a few SNP voters that have switched to Labour to back Corbyn for this election

But I thought independence was about social justice?  So with Jeremy Corbyn socialist agenda and redistributing wealth then people would flock to that?

And Brexit was the reason for indyref2.  Being dragged out the EU would surely mean Lib Dem support as they are the most pro European party by far with an SNP muddle.

I don't get it.  Seems people just want to take back control regardless of economics, numbers and medium to long term impact.   I've heard that somewhere before.

Its called being Scottish.

Most likely been said on here a thousand times, but for those who oppose independence, why do u deny Scotland's right to be a nation? When presumably you support the existence of all other nations on this Earth? Why is it only Scotland that should not have that right?

It's no longer about opposing Independence

It's opposing us having a choice at the end of Brexit

It's not even about leaving the EU. There's a pro independence majority in Edinburgh, they should be able to hold another referendum based on that alone.

I'm waiting for my 73 year old dad to Skype me tomorrow night around 9am (6pm Melbourne time) to say, "well that's it, you're SNP are on the down slide, they lost 6 seats, that's them finished, it can only go down from here" - He believes everything he hears on the the TV and whats in the Scottish Rags. "We are all sick and tired of her talking about Independence - You dinnae ken what its like over here - she never stops - Eh think she'll no be lang in getting the boot"

Really Dad?

So you think Wee Nicky has been ranting and raving about an Independent Scotland ?

"Are ye kiddin' we hivnae heard anything else"

But Dad, It's only Scottish Labour and Scottish Tory that have made you think that's what you are voting for .... they are the ones who keep bringing it up. Do you think everyone in England and Wales think this is a vote for Pro or Anti Independence Scotland ?

"Eh?, is this no aboot a new referendum?"

I've already told you that Article 30 has been triggered and it's only a matter of time now anyways, we are relaxed about it, and there is no need for us Pro Indie or Wee Nicky to talk about it ?

It's a general election Dad - it's between English Labour and Tories - and Scottish Tories assisting, so you're gonna get a Tory Govt.

If you think its been bad under Wee Nicky - you better buy yourself a big big bag of popcorn, sit back and see how this shite unfolds under the most dumb, arrogant, and downright obnoxious woman.

"Well, eh jist wan't the best for Scotland, wanna be in Europe, and dinnae want Independence, cos eh might lose meh pension and Asda and B&Q said they would move oot o Scotland"

Crivens, Jings, Help ma Boab.

More sophistry and straw man logic.

I think we have all had a few conversations similar to that. There ins't an awful lot of point trying to change their minds though. They automatically know much more about it than you, because they have lived for longer than you. Common sense really.

There looked like an awfy lot of Tory voters at my polling station - probably just my paranoia

Definitely think there is a lot of folk who voted SNP last time that have went back to Labour

Corbyn and not wanting a second referendum is the reason

The Unionist parties strategy has definitely hit home to a lot of our dunces

SNP to win every seat now 6/1 from 10/3

Still short odds

Tory Majority is 1/5 - i would have expected 1/10 or 1/12

It won't make any difference to the grand scheme of things but I expect a big dent in Theresa May's 30k majority here in Maidenhead.   Spoken to a lot of people locally in the last couple of weeks that have changed their minds about her.  Main opposition is the Lib Dems and they have a strong candidate, local guy, ex-head teacher of a local secondary school and locally well respected.    I also expect Lord Buckethead to be the best of the fringe candidates.

How funny if they got a majority government and she lost her seat!

My view right now is: in the long term, this election may not matter that much.

Unless a Corbyn majority (1% chance?), or Corbyn-led 'progressive alliance' including the SNP taking control (2% likely?), or there was a loss of Tory seats or tiny Tory gain, so that the knives came out for Theresa, leading to a new PM and unknown Brexit stance (5% likely?), then it's likely to be business as usual, with a Tory majority as before, and an expected loss of SNP seats and media spin that SNP are in terminal decline.

In that case, the Tories are only, in effect, extending their lease by 2 years (not 5), and a lot can happen in the next 5 that would have happened before 2020 anyway.

The SNP has bounced back from Westminster setbacks before; I'm thinking of 2010 when the SNP taking of Holyrood in 2007 fell flat at Westminster, but rebounded in 2011. And the indy cause is more than the SNP, and it could just be that the time is not now...

It won't come to that but I have noticed a very different shift in opinion in the last couple of weeks from people I've spoken to which is largely down to how she's personally performed in the campaign.  In the main that's people I know who rarely discuss politics so that in itself is telling.

I drove past the Conservative Club earlier on today and someone had spray-painted SCUM across the front.
