Looks like Partick Thistle, Killie, and Ross County through as three of the 4 second best.

And the loser of the dundee Derby unless it's 6-0 either way and Peterhead get in.

You could have ended up with a home draw v Ayr or any of the other unseeded teams. Today just gave you the right to be seeded as one of the top 8 teams* left in the competition.

Its just the luck of the draw.

* oxymoronic

WTF is the logic (and I use that term loosely in this context) behind that???

It's to give the illusion of being fair and random but really it's just maximising the gates (and helping Rangers) behind the scenes.

Ensuring Celtic, Rangers, and Hibs at home will draw bigger gates in the bigger stadiums.

Same with the Dundee derby.

Aberdeen (known for a strong travelling support) will be away to a smaller club, with the Falkirk/Livingstone tie setting up Rangers next opponent.

So what was the point of today then? Stupid competition.

There wasn't any thinking after 'another Dundee derby'.

All the group games need played whether two teams are already through come the last game or not. Today's game decided who would be seeded.

You could have the scenario where in the last game both teams are already qualified and both guaranteed to be non seeds. Then it would be a real dead rubber game but that's the way it is. Happens all the time in group stage competitions.
