@neaver82
Ryan Gauld has just received a standing ovation by the Sporting Lisbon fans as he was subbed in injury time of their 1-0 win in the League Cup against Boavista. He didnt score the goal but played well and won a penalty which his team mate converted. All very positive.

ErsatzThistle
Didn't know he was playing tonight ! Sounds great, I was worried that by now we'd be seeing the Daily Record gleefully reporting that Gauld was homesick, missing his maw's steak pie and wanting a move to the Old Firm but he appears to be doing ok out there. Just need more young Scots to follow his example and take the plunge on the continent.
deecie
Not good enough imo. He'll be at Gayfield before the year is out.

As you say hoping gaulds example opens oportunities for fellow countrymen. Read that gauld is really kean on representing his country. The "mini messi" . Brilliant ! JECK
Nothing more to add really but thoroughly delighted for him and refreshing he's embracing the challenging, always seems level headed and somewhat intelligent when he's spoken. Hopefully he's putting a good word for his old mates at United
GHfaeGTA
Got MOM on Sporting official Twitter account and most fans giving him MOM on facebook and many saying he should be in 1st team permanently. Hopefully get a few run outs in league games before end of season
Jaggy Jim
BBC did a good interview with Robertson, Armstrong & Gauld before the cup final last year. Very impressed with all 3. Seemed to have their heads screwed on. Think they'll all go far in the game.

kmcca5
The recent Dundee United youngsters seem to have great attitudes and actually seem like normal nice lads. Russell, GMS, Gauld, Armstrong and Robertson all included. Good example to all kids, stay in Scotland, learn your trade at a team like United, playing attractive football then make the right move to the right club. Almost makes up for the shity attitudes or Goodwilly, Scott Allan etc.... Edited January 15, 2015 by kmcca5

adamntg
what happened to the centre half at Dundee Utd who was getting talked about like Gauld? John Souttar - he's been injured most of this season. Just turned eighteen a couple of months back, already played 40 games in the first team. Plenty time. ShedTA
to be honest he has taken a while to settle in i think but now that he is we will hopefully see him grow and start performing close to his potential. Looks like this match shows that his progress is on track. bound to have needed a bit of time to settle. great for him and scotland hopefully. Al1978
I think it's just a reserve side for the league cup he's been playing in these last couple of games. Probably be a while before he's pushing for a proper first team place.

That is true but he has left a favourable impression with the fans with an impressive showing so puts him at the head of the quue in the pecking order to make it on to future first team benches this season I would say. Interview with him in 442 this month, where he says he always knew a club in Portugal or Spain would suit him because of his size and style of play. He also says he didn't even consider England because it's too 'kick and rush', and not technical enough :-) fantastic attitude from the boy! Sounds as if he will be challenging for a regular first team slot in 2015. Would love to get a look at him in march.
