Last Minute Winners

Recommended Posts

Don't know if we've had this before but have been watching some last minute winners on YouTube and see how emotional they all are.

Got me to thinking our teams have all scored them but what's your favourite?

I'll go for Garry O'conner against Hearts at Easter road in the 10 man Derby.

Pretty much the last kick of the season to pip Aberdeen to 2nd place has to be right up there.

Scott McDonalds late double to stop celtic winning the league at fir park.

Mark Fitzpatricks extra time winner v hearts at easter road in the league cup semi.

Not "a winner", but Lukas Jutkiewiczs equaliser in the 6-6 game felt like a winner.

(Also honourable mention to Tom Hatelys late away goal at Odense)

Pawlett's winner at Tannadice on New Years Day last year was one of the best moments of last season for me.

Brian Welsh v Aberdeen in Hampden semi 1994 was brilliant, although it was only an equaliser.

Likewise, Welshy v Partick Thistle at Tannadice in the last minute of the second leg of the play off in 96. Again, an equaliser but both ties were won eventually.

I would include Darren Jackson v Motherwell in the 91 cup final, but it didn't work out quite as well.

Darren Dods getting the last minute winner v Celtic at Tannadice in 2009 to finally beat them after ten years was pretty special too.

I'm sure there's more, United seem to get a disproportionate number of late goals to me.

Feb '89 Cyprus v Scotland 2-3

Gough scored about 7 minutes into added on time.

The ko must have been something like 1pm our time cos I listened to the game at school. I was in techy drawing and the teacher was a good guy who allowed me to listen to it on my Walkman. As the 2nd half came to a close he kept asking if we've scored yet and I kept replying with a negative. And then the teacher - looking at his watch - proclaims "that'll be that then" as we were already well over the 90. That despair turned to disbelief and then joy as I relayed Goughs goal to the teacher and the rest of the class

Not really emotional but memorable

In retrospect, one of my favourites as well.

Only one club suffered because of that...

The Brian Welsh ones reminded me of an equaliser by John Philliben at Tannadice to make it 2-2 in a scottish cup tie around 1994.

I'm sure Brian Welsh scored the winner at a packed out fir park in the replay.

He did indeed. I was right up the back of the top tier of the big stand. Bedlam it was. Great year 1994.

This one bizarrely always sticks in the memory for me. Not a match I gave two hoots about nor a player I even particularly liked, but all that pressure to land on one individual in what is a team sport must have been immense. I think Italy were down to 10 men and it was the last 16 of the WC, so if he didn't score Italy would have been out.

It's only penalty, but the pressure on Totti didn't even seem to register!

Beat Rangers 2-1 with 93rd minute winner, tap in for WIlliamson in front of 3,500 Killie fans.

But this one is my fave EVER! Last minute, killed 10 in a row stone dead. Laudrup, Gough, McCoist, Durrant etc last game for Rangers at Ibrox. Smith's last game too. Umbelievable Jeff!

This was a really special match for me. One of the only times, given the advent of all-seater stadia that I got to go ballistic with my lad (aged 10 at the time) on a packed terrace behind the goal. Two injury time goals from a central defender brought on as a sub to play up front away at York who we were neck & neck with in the play-off chase at the time.
