In the past repeating those words often enough might have been enough to get folk on her side, but I'm not sure that works anymore. It still seems to work on some folk but possibly not enough. You actually have a point there, not on Katy's speech though which was superb. But you've certainly got a point on what "what works" or what voters are looking for. The SNP are widely regarded as a progressive force in Scotland by many despite, not opposing zero hour contracts, refusing to lend support to repeal the Thatcher anti Union laws, and supporting blacklisting. I've actually got no idea to suggest what a Socialist would have to say/do to gain support in Britain/Scotland but it seems that it's no longer enough to support the working class. In 2007, Burns successfully proposed to the House of Commons Administration Committee, of which he was then a member, that Members of Parliament should have "priority access" to services within the Parliamentary Estate. In practice, this meant that MPs could avoid queues for shops, restaurants, bars, computers, photocopiers and even toilets by "pushing in" ahead of visitors or staff. The so-called "queue jumping rule" provoked cross-party opposition from Commons staff and other MPs but Burns trenchantly defended the proposal.On 3 April 2008, Burns was involved in a collision with a cyclist as he drove his 4x4 out of the Palace of Westminster into Parliament Square. The cyclist, British Army Major Stuart Lane, was thrown over the handlebars of his bicycle and broke two vertebrae in his neck "which could hinder his Army career". For entertainment value if nothing else. It would be worth somebody getting suspended every now and again just to give publicity to all the nonsense that goes on. These toffy nosed twats just treat the HoC as an extension of their toffy nosed public school days. Time all that nonsense was challenged. Time to modernise our system of government. Auld Maggie's TU laws seem almost benevolent compared to what the current crew have planned. "We oppose austerity" and "we absolutely aren't evil neoliberal douches" can be explained away by saying "But Labour...", "But Westminster..." Or my personal favourite "EU regulations...
