DaveyDenoon
So alistair Carmichael has admitted he was behind the leaked memo (ie blatant lies) which stated Nicola had said she'd rather Cameron as PM than Miliband. Had this been known to the good people of Orkney during the election campaign, would he have been re-elected? I doubt it. But he himself knew damn well and so his entire campaign and subsequent re-election was surely based on a falsehood. Surely he is not fit to hold office? Surely he should be forced to resign and a by-election held forthwith? Absolute cretin. Edited May 22, 2015 by DaveyDenoon
fishcumnock
Total recall imo ,just seen it on sky news . lying basstard , he'll get pingy next week ,we knew who it was anyway that's why he ran for cover during the pishtalk.

ErsatzThistle
Bet this will be swept under the carpet. But the evil SNP having the nerve to applaud in parliament and taking their seats will remain a complete outrage ! What a bloody joke. phart
It's still total rage inducing nonsense. The Civil Servant knew exactly what they were doing, and put in a caveat to cover himself about "loose translation" , a total fix up from top to bottom. ShedTA
agreed this is all wrong. he should be made to resign - at the time he said he didnt know where it had come from did he not? surely blatant lying to the public is enough to demand he resigns? ShedTA
Basically Carmichael is a dirty sleekit lying b*stard. what do the people of Orkney and shetland think of him now?

aaid
It's still total rage inducing nonsense. The Civil Servant knew exactly what they were doing, and put in a caveat to cover himself about "loose translation" , a total fix up from top to bottom. It doesn't smell like that to me. Four people in this chain. French-Consul general who looks like a gossipy sort and gave an impression when interviewed that he'd been saying more than he should've. Scottish Office Civil Servant (career civil servant, not political appointment) who wrote up his conversation with the above but basically said he thought it was bollocks. Carmichael's SPAD who phoned the Telegraph and leaked the memo. Carmichael who either explicitly told his SPAD to call the Telegraph or knew about it but didn't stop it. No real difference either way. I suspect the only person who is blameless here is the civil servant who wrote up the call. Looks to me that Carmichael and Roddin saw the political capital and waited for the point to leak it, which was just after Nicola Sturgeon appeared on the first leaders debate and was riding high in the public perception. Looks less like a conspiracy to me than a piece of opportunism. Anyway, if Carmichale wasn't already finished, he is now.
phart
. Anyway, if Carmichale wasn't already finished, he is now. you may very well be right, the above is certainly the most important issue, he cannot be trusted to serve the public honestly and therefore must go. Dillinger
He hasn't really admitted it so much as been caught. Admitting it is sticking your hand up and confessing to a crime - he owned up only once the investigation had pointed the finger at him. He's a lying c.unt.
giblet
he let an enquiry happen costing apparently over a £1 million, before owning up? He has to resign.

giblet
Can anybody force him to re-sign over this? nope. Look at how that MP in Stirling kept his job despite being done for assault. No right of recall.
Maq
Can anybody force him to re-sign over this? Far more importantly, can the mods merge the two threads on this??
Rossy
I utterly detest these lying Unionist f*ckers, and their lackeys in the right-wing press. Scum.
Stapes
Remember this cracking wee tweet from Carmichael. Pretty sure after the leak. Honesty indeed. @acarmichaelmp: Clegg: SNP needs to be honest about £40bn budget shortfall http://t.co/g3TzyrBbMp
Stinky Tam
Shetland knew - it's Orkney we need to talk to ! That's not true - observers from both Lib Dems and SNP at the count in Lerwick agreed Carmichael was just ahead before the counting of the Orkney votes started. Reporters from both Shetland News and the BBC in Orkney have said that umpteen times.
buckielugger
May as well post tbis in both threads.... Shetland Times are running a vote on whether Carmichael should resign...currently at 94% yes he should. .. http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2015/05/22/carmichael-accepts-full-responsibility-for-memo-leak

Narey1-0
I know Alistair through th Islay circles. Aye, he's a Phuqqing unionist clown, but not a a bad man. Thus, put the whole thing down to media pishas usual. I know Islay Circles; in a roundabout sort of way. He is a bad man - a liar and a fraud. He leaked a memo in an attempt to smear the First Minister of Scotland whilst he was the Secretary of State of Scotland. He then ordered an inquiry into something he knew full well he was the guilty party. Not only is he a 'bad' man he is a dangerous man trying to subvert democracy.
