EddardStark
that's terrible news to be honest. A great debater in his days and made politics accessible to the general public by his media and TV work. RIP.

saintlyscot
He leaves behind a 10 year old who is going to miss their dad which is always sad. On a lighter note his personal demons prompted some shambolic and funny late night tv performances. He was however an elequent and accomplished orator. northernscum
Pretty gutting news, this. Charlie represented my area for years and although i didn't agree with all his views he was a genuine, proud Highlander. Really approachable and was willing to help anyone. King Of Paisley
Sad news. Didn't agree with his views but didn't deserve this. Was very gracious in defeat a couple of weeks ago and chuckled at his reference to the 'night of the long sgian dubhs'.

Dillinger
My own dad is the same age. Makes me grateful he managed to kick the drink, if indeed that played a part.
Maq
God, that's awful news. He was a very likeable guy. Any word on how he passed?
Tartan Eagle
Sad news indeed - a genuine man, a proper parliamentarian, and, by all accounts, a good constituency MP with a love of life. My thoughts are with his family. RIP Charles
Grim Jim
I rememberhim backwhenhe was my GU Union president, and he dragged us kicking and screaming (and democratically) into the 20th century. RIP Charlie.

Flora MaDonald
Never knew he had split up with Mrs. K. The bloody drink again. His poor wee loon will be wondering what it's all about.
jailender
He was our MP for the last 32 years, and did a lot for the constituency. A good guy. Only lost his seat due to the unstoppable move to the SNP. Never heard him being bad-mouthed locally. Very sad.
Flure
Quite shocked at this. He was elected in 1983 as a Social Democrat MP and was previously Labour.

buckielugger
Sad news indeed. Admired him for not joining Clegg & Carmichael etc round the Tory cabinet table & for his strident opposition to the illegal Iraq war. Also a funny guy and genuine. Bristolhibby
Sad news. A genuine man who struggled with a terrible illness. Stood firm against the War in Iraq (and turned out to be right). Conflences to his family and friends. RIP
