romanticscot
In a bit to make friendlies meaningful, there is the 2018-2019 UEFA Nations League to look forward to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018%E2%80%9319_UEFA_Nations_League#Format The format looks confusing but is another route apparently for 4 teams to qualify for the EURO's in 2020. A third rate international competition is perhaps where we belong, so gutted today. Does anyone have any understanding of how this thing is going to operate? Lion Rampant
Yeah, it'll open up another avenue for us to find a completely contrived and unique way to not qualify for a tournament

Hendricks
Wow - so actual Euro 2020 qualifying only runs from March 2019 to November 2019 with 5 double header weekends in March, June, September, October and November. If would appear from that if I'm understanding it that the Nations League will see 4 teams qualify meaning there are no play offs and top 2 go through from the 10 groups in the actual 2020 qualifying. However if you get a group with one of the Nation League qualifiers in it its the top 2 minus them. The SFA should be employing someone who understands (as they clearly have no clue) how to manipulate the rankings system to ensure any and all friendlies we play over the next couple of years are beneficial in terms of seedings as any improvement in who we can draw is critical.
