Oil Discovery Bonanza

Recommended Posts

The only time I have ever heard west coast oil being mentioned in msm was when Tommy raised it on one of the shows during the ref. The media like to harp on about the oil running out and play up when some of the workers lose there jobs. Still not seen them say anything about rigs being moved to new well heads or the resent oil discovery's in both the north sea and off Shetlands west coast. They will never talk positively about Scotland's oil as we all know it would be a big boost to the question of an independent Scotland's economy and a big loss to the new UK's.

We should invest in wind and tidal power as well - apparently we have a quarter of the EU's potential energy in both. This would give us a huge financial boost - as well. We're such a energy rich nation, but the UK doesn't seem to like that.

You do realise we already lead the world in both?

Did you miss this last week?:

The Westminster government is doing its best to change that though. The changes to the subsidy system have had a really damaging effect on the renewables industry.

Yup we were doing to well with renewables that the Westminster got scared and decided to reduce the subsidies knowing it would disproportionately affect Scotland. Any time we have something to show we can make it on our own Westminster or the media swipe it down

unfortunately that 'we could make it on our own ' phrase is our real problem

8700 barrels per day is nothing the market . Since Apache are looking to bale from the North Sea they need some token oil for the new purchaser to extract otherwise they will be left with the decommissioning costs. There is more politics in this industry than there is in Holyrood.

the amount of recoverable oil remaining in the north sea is staggering,, even just to have it for energy security as we move away from fossil fuels in the future,, oil and gas will always be used in some capacity. i know for a fact there is another untapped oil field east of the claire ridge,, i know the company man that drilled it,, there is the untapped bentley field that is massive..

Thing is there is no way in the world this resource is going to be left where it is, the govt in England is SO inept and pathetic it NEEDS the revenue DESPERATELY, people can cry about the environment, it won't make any difference to them, at all. We had a chance in 2014 to change all of this, change the attitude towards the environment and the use of  fossil fuels and our resources but no, "we" were too pathetic and too fkin stupid.
