If we are to be poor and fail again we may aswell do so trying new things and giving some YOUTH a chance. YOUTH doesn't mean 25 year olds either.We may aswell stick the best Under 21's in the next squad and have a look at them all.There is no need to include Greer, Maloney, Whittaker etc etc in the next Friendly squad - We know what they can do.There is, however, a need to see what Ryan Jack, Ryan Christie, Ryan Fraser, Kieran Tierney, Ryan Gauld and probably Liam Cooper/John Souttar can do.We have to try things or we will be left with where Berti was when Craig Brown left his post all those years ago with a series of failures between then and now... Brown picked the best team he had out of the available players irrespective of age, as will Strachan because qualification, and ultimately his position depend on getting results. For Strachan the task is harder because there is a smaller pool of available players that are a good enough quality, the fact that we trawl one of the lower tiers of the English set up for players and use the granny rule is proof of this. Brown was the first victim of this generational shift not an orchestrator of it: the clubs in Scotland decided to borrow up to the hilt and buy foreign pros into the league in the 90s and we ended up with a lost generation of local talent getting paid OK money to sit on the bench. Throwing in untested young players in the hope that some sort of magic international fairy dust will transform them is not the answer to our lack of success in qualification, its up to these young guys to develop themselves at club level and make the right career choices and earn their call ups. That means looking after their bodies, taking opportunities abroad, working at their game full time... things that we do not necessarily associate with young footballers in this country. Marky Posted November 12, 2015 Share Posted November 12, 2015 Not worrying much about what he said. I'd love to see us play 3 at the back but we struggle to find two good centre halfs. System we play suits the squad we have and that wont change massivley by next year unless a Gauld makes an breakthrough in Portugal. As said sort out some of the decision making from players during games may help. Fletcher going with his right foot in Georgia, Marshall playing the goal kick vs Poland at Hampden out wide rather than up the middle probably prevents the free kick happening. Guest allyc Posted November 13, 2015 Share Posted November 13, 2015 We are not going to qualify.realistically the next euros will be our best chance.we should be unleashing of jack,Fraser,Christie,gauld etc without question.what the point of going through another campaign of being in the mix only to fall away again at the end.we are asking too much of the likes of maloney,Hutton etc.I would rather be a team looking to the future than entertaining the same old forever never men. We had about 6 call offs we could've added to the squad. Besides - We had players in that squad left on the bench like Shinnie and Russell who were crying out for a start!!
