Marginally better than being controversial for the sake of it. Souness is a good pundit. Slightly prone to the cliche now and again but gives a good analytical insight. Both however streets ahead of Shearer. Dull, completely cliche ridden and it is clear MoTD analysts present him with points to cover that he doesn't quite grasp all the time. At his best when talking about English strikers - "pace, power, precision - he's got the lot"........He apparently blanks out his inept short spell in management when criticising other manager's tactics - if he can get away with that without any hint of embarrassment , then there might be a way back for Gary Neville also ......
