It's a big place, so it depends a bit on where you are but there's some very nice pubs all around. The Ship Inn at Mousehole is a brilliant spot, but parking in the village is hellish & it gets rammed. There's a bigger place up the coast called The Old Coastguard that's decent but pricier. There's a nice pub in Newlyn that serves Betty Stoggs Ale & does OK food. Land's End is a tourist-trap dump. Other than the "I've been there" factor it ain't worth the trouble. I'd also (if it's not too late) avoid the bigger towns; St. Ives, Newquay, etc. as they can be very busy & are a bit naff. The good spots are generally in the smaller village. giblet Posted April 3, 2016 Share Posted April 3, 2016 We based ourselves just outside st Austell. Mevagissey and a number of small fishing villages are nearby and the Eden project is there also. Bristol Killie Posted April 5, 2016 Share Posted April 5, 2016 Padstow is a nice base, plenty of nice little pubs and places to eat, however it can be busy. The Custom House on the corner of the harbour is pretty nice for staying and depending on when you go can be reasonable. From Padstow you're half an hour from Newquay, Port Isaac, Boscastle, Tintagel and the Eden Project and has loads of nice beaches round the corner. Also it's not too far down, St.Ives Lands End etc is a further hour and a bit down the road, it's surprising how big Cornwall is. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
rabmania Posted April 5, 2016 Share Posted April 5, 2016 Cornwall can be very wet. One year it seemed to rain non-stop for two years! What's been said above- all true- depends where you are based. Don' t rule out Kingsand/Cawsand, and Fowey is lovely too. St Mawes/St Just-in -Roseland- these are all on the quieter, greener south coast and well worth a visit. Plenty of places to eat, depends what you want to pay, how far you want to drive. If you're interested in plants the Eden is a given, but you might find the Lost Gardens of Heligan a much better, less-touristy experience. Get down a tin mine at Geevor, fascinating tours conducted by former miners. Walking boots on and walk from Sennen Cove- round Lands End (avoiding the cack) and up to Porthcurno- magic. Coffee in the MInack Theatre cafe/museum then catch the open-topped double decker bus back to Sennen Cove. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
