Been a bit of a long day but also reasonably awesome. Went to bed last night a bit gloomy about our futures.

Going to bed tonight thinking a new indy ref is almost on the cards within 3 years and in a political landscape that makes a YES look far more likely.

I dont think anyone expected this. It reminds me of the 70 seats out of nowhere and thus the chance from nowhere we were given for indy ref 1. Well this is another one, another unbelievable result, someone up there must like us, and we cant piss this one away.

I think you should mibbe have a lie doon.

The UK has just removed itself from a Union which forbids socialism, forces austerity and will soon allow corporations to sue governments if their public services affect profits. It's very hard not to see that as anything other than a victory. Impossible even.

who will be the bringer of this socialist paradise. Gove, IDS or Boris?

As I've said 1,000,000 times before, the barriers preventing socialism are the exact same in the UK as they would be in an independent Scotland. Both have populations equally opposed to such. In the EU in either makes it impossible.

I was worried about a Leave vote but genuinely thought there weren't enough blinkered people to swing it for Leave. It was jaw dropping watching Channel 4 news tonight when they interviewed people from Barnsley and Romford talking about Muslims, foreigners and Turks - I've genuinely not heard stuff like that up here. We're a different country.

Agreed

And i think you are mibbes a tedious tool. Night night. ;)

 Can't argue with that.

You'll not manage to sleep. You've got yourself too excited. The referendum won't be for at least a year. Don't peak too soon.;)

I was just away to my bed. Feck knows why you felt the need to reply other than your usual need to post some supercilious pish on the end of every on here. It wont be me posting pithy wee khunt comments into the wee hours.

Fuxsake wasn't expecting that result but then I'm part of the "metropolitan elite". I don't get places like Basildon, Barnsley or Boston. Boroughs in London like Lambeth and Wandsworth voted to Remain more than Scotland as a whole and I lived and enjoyed these places.

It's nuts IMHO. For me the economy is the most important thing in elections. This debate was not about that. I'm in shock.

Enjoy. Its your  lot that got us here.

Sadly I have heard this in Scotland, what makes it worse is that these people don't live with 50 miles of anyone with a different colour of skin to them. I'm talking about people I used to associate as intelligent but 2014 and now this referendum reavealed their true nature.

Heard tonight a theory that Scotland may try and use the "reverse Greenland" model.  Denmark retains membership within EU but Greenland under its control got exempted.

so Scotland would stay within EU and rest of Uk would come out. Intriguing that Sturgeon cited speaking to the London mayor about strategy. London may stay in also?

wouldnt be Indy, however it would possibly gain traction as that third way..

You'd have heard it here too an hour ago ;)

I think a scenario like that is what we should push for first in any negotiations. Definitely a better option than another extended referendum campaign with no guarantee of success...

Read that as well, but its surely nonsense. For a start, Greenland and Faroes are sets of islands, we are connected to England, it would simply be unworkable.

A lot of obstacles to it, but we're in uncharted waters here. As it stands we're going to have an EU / non-EU border on Ireland, would it be possible for one to exist on Great Britain?...

Why are some adults so fecking childish and kids so grown up? Woman on the radio news just now bleating on about not being racist but that her grandchild had a Polish kid who couldn't speak English in their class. Big fecking deal - my kids have had that and because they're kids rather than bigots they and their classmates speak to the child who then rapidly learns English and is quickly integrated. I honestly despair.

That's one of the more sinister elements of Cameron's idiotic decision. This is a monumental phuk up : https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jun/24/northern-irish-peace-sacrificed-english-nationalism

Well I for one didn't believe the lie nor the other lies. But many did.

Are you seriously suggesting that the fact a politician has lied, and a nation voted a particular way on the premise of that lie, should be tolerated?

You made the point that we voted No so must accept being dragged out of Europe, I'm making the point that our referendum result was heavily influenced by one major lie amongst many others. And you're ok with that?

My point wasn't aimed at any specific politician, it was aimed at every politician.  All the main players tell lies or severely twist the truth to get what they want.  I rely on them to run the country, I don't rely on them to help me make my mind up on important issues.  If we all did that, we would have voted Yes 95 to 5.
