iainmac1
I was just thinking if Celtic win the Scottish Cup then they will have done so without playing a top league team at all. All lower league teams they've played. When was the last time a team won the cup by only ever playing lower league teams?
Toepoke
Interesting stat! I know Killie only played one in 1997 (Dundee Utd in the semi).
RenfrewBlue
No idea. I do know the only team to win the Scottish Cup whilst not being in the top league.

jimstroma
The Bairns have lost 3 cup finals whilst in the lower league

You sure? off the top of my head the only clubs to win their first trophy against us are Motherwell, Aberdeen, Livingston and Ross County. Possibly followed by The Rangers next month

adamntg
This must be the first final between lower league teams then... Poor East Fife losing their claim to fame. Edited April 17, 2016 by adamntg
iainmac1
My question is now irrelevant. Perhaps no one had ever won it by only playing lower league teams. But yeah the commentator said this is the first ever final between two lower teams outwith the top league.

Play each other twice, home and away. Every fixture is unique. No messing about with some teams playing more home than away games vice-versa. Fixtures generated well in advance to help fans plan. Generate interest. Create League Cup Group Stages - addresses fixture shortfall, could be set up to help our teams competing in Europe to give them help for our own co-efficient, would hopefully see teams use younger squad players early in season to give them a chance. Probably facilitates a winter break too. It's time....... Edited April 18, 2016 by SMcoolJ

Cove_Sheep
Given until about the semi-final stage, crowds at the LC are utterly horrendous, I really don't know why so many seem to think this would be feasible for replacing league games and the drop in revenue from cutting the number of matches. You include the LC Group games in the season ticket price.

Agree to a point. Although with less league games, would the league cup move to weekends rather than midweek? That may help? This has been a fairly unique couple of seasons with traditionally bigger clubs in the 2nd tier, and likely be 1 or 2, maybe even 3 bigger teams there next year. Lets be honest though, if 2 from Hamilton, Patrick thistle, ICT, Ross county, stjohnstone, Dundee... went down and Rangers and Hibs came up, most folk would go back to not giving a hoot about the 2nd tier. It isn't just a new phenomenom because we have Rangers and Hibs in the Championship. League expansion should have happened years ago.
