Windows 10 started off so badly for gaming that it has a bit of a stigma attached to it now, although chances are it's likely improved. A rather famous gaming YouTuber (not me though) recently destroyed his PC in a video because it auto updated to Windows 10 without his consent... But I'm sure he was playing to the hysteria for views My colleague was auto upgraded and half her specialist software dont work no more . Microsoft are evil bastards. hunchy
From what friends have been saying in the gaming community is if you know what to do then win 10 is great for gaming but it can be a tedious process to go tweek everything so if you can't be bothered spending several hours tweaking or not to great with windows just stick to win
Scunnered
14 hours ago, the doomed said: Auto upgraded? Nonsense It's exceptionally common. In fact a colleague who is at PAX east, is at this very second cursing Microsofts name because one of the show PC's has auto updated to Windows 10 and the build won't run on it. #Windows10strikes is the hashtag used for when this happens if memory serves. Guest BlueGaz
Upgrade to Mac, will be like upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 110 for you.
JohnW
The upgrade is now classed as a Windows Update now, if you're set to install updates automatically (the default setting) you'll get it. I find it an improvement on 8 and much faster to boot than 7. The BitLocker drive encryption is going to save us a fortune compared to what we pay MacAfee (spit!) FuNsTeR
prefer to stick with Windows 7 than Windows 10 ... Windows 10 is buggy they haven't fixed the issues of Windows 10 freezing when you click on a folder with lots of files .... this has been a issue from the beta editions with Windows 10 ... or if you click on a drive/partition with a lot of folders and files it can take forever for the files/images to load .... Windows edge is even worse than internet explorer 11 ffs

HUNTINGMcGREGOR
Windows 10 is great on new laptops/pc's etc. especially high res and touch screen - few quirks that make it tracking, these can be disabled. If you have an older laptop, no need to upgrade - you ain't missing anything. I'm over the moon with my new laptop Dell Inspiron, but when I tidied up my old Samsung laptop and upgraded, I had all sorts of issues with fuzzy graphics, gremlins, having to download new drivers etc - more hassle than it was worth. I'm good with IT but not a boffin - I'd say no need to upgrade. Extended support for Windows 7 lasts until January 14, 2020.
Alibi
I was told by a guy in Currys that you could download W10 for free. Does that apply to a Vista laptop or is it just free for W7 onwards?

MacWalka
So now it seems none of my Total War games are running. Bill Gates, I'm going to send my mongolian hordes to take down your shitty Wok.

Only lasted that long as I couldn't be bothered doing a fresh install during the week when I got home from work. Straight back to XP then upgraded to 7 when I "ahem" received a copy. 2 hours ago, BlueGaz said: Never had a problem running intensive games on a Mac, maxed out. Kirk
It updated itself on my parents laptop, it basically stopped a lot of this from working. You can reset it to your old windows within a month though so I did that and its far better back on windows

As soon as 7 started up it was hassling me to install 10 for free.

Grim Jim
I posted earlier a link to voat.co with a script that turns off MS telemetry (i.e. spying) and Win10 nags, and the bug I mentioned was fixed by Aegis v1.17. However, if you just want to turn off the nags, then this Windows update would seem to enable you to do this (clicky)--> kb3050265. I've not tried it myself as I'm blocking everything with the Aegis script, and everything now seems to be running ok for me. Sticking with Win7 where I have to (all versions of IE uninstalled too), and Linux where I don't.
