Gdansk/Sopot

Going to Gdansk in June for a stag do. While we're there Euro 2016 is on. Anyone who has been recommend some good sports bars or just places with big screens to watch some of the games?

We've got stuff organised for various days, but we've kept 16 June free because England v Wales and Germany v Poland is on.

Any club/pub/restaurant recommendations would also be welcome.

Spent our family summer holiday in Poland last year with 6 nights in Sopot with time in Gdansk and Gdynia as well. No idea where to watch fitba right enough as there wasn't any on but anything else you want to know give me a shout :ok:

Try The Blue Poodle in Sopot. Probably no fitba on but one of the weirdest pubs Ive ever been to!

They'll have the fitba on in the Casino on the beach... danger danger....

Was in both Gdańsk and Sopt a couple of weeks ago! Lots of bars and hotels were showing Premier League football so don't think finding a game will be a problem. Both nice places. Quite liked Republika in Gdansk down on the waterfront not the cheapest but still less than £2 a beer! :)

In Gdynia - there is a stretch of promenade down by the beach which has about half a dozen very nice beach bars and restaurants; some of these will be showing football on big TVs (by & just along from the new Browiar brewhouse at Port Gdynia).

Don't go to U Szkota in Gdansk - it masquerades as Scottish bar, & is about 40 years old, but it's not Scottish!! It's one of these twee faux British pubs which charges a bomb for a pint of Guinness; about 14 zl, and you may want to think how long that the beer has been in the tap. It's dark and dingy as well. Plenty more nice places in Gdansk especially near the dock side where the old pirate ships are;from there, head back towards the main church where there are a few nice basement bars (There is an Irish one near Szkota which is far better). Republika is, as MacWomble says, nice.

In Sopot I would suggest that almost half/all the bars/restaurants/cafes on Monte Cassino will show the Poland game - they will all be mobbed, so I suggest that you make friends with one bar, book in advance, and set up shop; if you're going to spend a few Zloty, you will be looked after. I would always go downhill from the Hotel Rezydent heading towards the pier and inbetween there will be all the pubs you'd need. There was an English themed pub called Sherlock near the train station which was always frequented by Jakeys, which I would avoid but they always did have wall-to-wall sport.

Between any of the towns in the Tri City area - you won't pay a huge amount getting taxis between any of the three; see what suits you lads and take it from there.

Top post Notts bankie, and cheers everyone else for the replies.

Heading off on Tuesday until Saturday. Like the sound of getting on one of the pirate ships for a tour round the coast. Also gonna visit the stadium in Gdansk, 40,000 capacity I think, built for Euro 2012.

Just to update this thread, went to Gdansk last week for the stagger. Was 14 of us (one dropped out the day before) and I think all of us were unanimous in saying that it was a cracking place.

The old town is really nice and generally quite cheap, however we were staying slightly out of the city centre and scouted a really nice restaurant near the hotel that was basically doing two courses and two drinks for the combined price of about £8. Absolute bargain.

We didn't get the chance to go to Sopot, but found plenty to do in Gdansk. Sopot definitely on the to do list if I go back.

Overall it's a really friendly place, the Poles were great, even kept a bar open well past its opening hours for us - think we finally left about 5am. Another bar we stumbled into for the Northern Ireland/Ukraine game, realised it wasn't open yet, but the owner told us to take a seat and put the game on for us as he was happy to get the income. Taxis are generally cheap, drinks on average about £1.50. I was there for five days and spent only £200, and that was four nights out, meals, strips clubs, taxis, etc.

Anyway, great choice for a stag or a couples holiday, you won't be disappointed.
