Why not just leave the Cups to who is drawn against who ?

Gone all Champions League with this crap now.

They used to have sections for the League Cup years ago. I'm sure you are auld enough to remember that? Or, maybe you are so auld that you have forgotten?;) Anyway, it was a great format and it gave the craved after 2 extra  Old Firm matches per season. It was a great way to start off the season.

Ahem, clearly too young thank you Sir

Get the valid points made, I just think it takes away that excitement of the draw as you progress.

That I do remember, the good old days when people gave a shite about the Cups. :ok:

It was regionalised and gave all the diddy lower league teams a game against the top team in the region. And it provided a few derby games to start off the season. It gave all the Angus clubs a chance to play against United, who were one of the big teams at the time. Can you remember that far back? Of course, now that United have gone back to their natural home of the diddy leagues, they would have had a chance to play the big team in Dundee.

I don't remember it ever being regionalised?

It was certainly seeded with all but the bottom two sides in the top division making up the first four groups.

Aye, you might be right. But I seem to remember that Rangers and Celtic always seemed to be in the same group. I'm  talking late 60s early 70s here, so it's  a bit vague in my memory.

Having thought further about the fixtures, might be my last chance to see east Stirling, as they are disappearing in one way or other.

Never been to Annan.

Rangers home or away is a car crash that I have to rubber neck!!!

Yes you're right about that.

A quick search shows they met about 12 times. I think it was 5 times in the late 60s early 70s.

They always met 3rd game of the season too so 3 Old Firm games in 4 weeks with the 4th at New Year. :)

The only complaint I have is that, like the Champions League, the competition is incorrectly titled. How can it be called the "League Cup" when you have a non-league team in it? I realise this is a minor point but these things annoy me..

True. But "The League and a few non-League teams in order to make the numbers work Cup" is a bit of a mouthful.....

Every team in the League Cup is in a "league" of some sort or another. Just because they are not in the top 4 divisions doesn't mean they are not in the "league".

Good idea because it's different. Our game needs a kick up the arse. Having two straight knockout comps as in the last wee while is pointless. Especially when semis and finals are in between Scottish cup games.

Agree with this, also I would rather my team played a few competitive games early on rather than the pishy pre season friendlies St Murn usually play

This will eventually go the same way as the league sections years ago, down the tubs due to lack of interest/ crowds

Spot on, they are flogging a dead horse. I've said on here many times it should be scrapped all together, although to be fair I have been in the minority.

At a glance they appear to be showing 5 games. Including 3 of Rangers 4.

Making hay while the sun shines I guess. Most seasons neither of the Old Firm teams will be involved in the group stages....
