Only need to beat France, then England, then Germany, Spain or Italy to get to the final.  Tough draw.

Wouldn't put it past them.

They might struggle if it's Iceland in the quarters though...

So jealous watching it all again this morning. Robbie keane posted the team singing on the plane, looks like they are enjoying it.

If they fly between their training base and matches, they'd be aswell having their training base in Dublin or Manchester.

Just a thought....

Are they doing that for all games?

Ireland won't be getting past France. In no way do I expect this, but, as an Irish fan, I can never discard the hope. However, I'm more than happy with the display the team has put on so far in the tournament. Belgium was very disappointing and knocked the wind out quite a bit, but to watch the team come back the way they did against Italy? Gets me right here. That's all I can really ask for with Ireland in big tournaments on the rare occasion of Ireland's involvement - one great moment.

Paris 2009 will a ghost that looms over the game to come, at least in the minds of the Irish. Perhaps the French have forgotten, I don't know. But for Ireland it will be a game of symbolic importance and perhaps that will drive them to at least not lose too badly. This is, after all, a strong French side playing to its home fans while the country hosts the tournament. No doubts that they will be motivated to try and win convincingly.

So, come what may, we in Ireland, hopefully, will still be singing, "Olé, olé, olé."......

it is not forbidden to be based outwith the country hosting the tournament while you are still participating in it

Maybe.

otherwise I could see teams just flying in and out for games.

In the last 9 months Ireland have beaten Germany, Italia, Bosnia and should've beaten Sweden. They are now looking forward to a second round game against the hosts. Not bad for a lucky "pish" team that Scotland are better than.

Every word you wrote there could be true!;)

They beat Germany and Italy teams that had already qualified.

No mean feat, I'll give you, but let's not kid ourselves that Ireland would have beaten a full-strength Italian side last night that needed the points.

What O'Neil has done has brought Ireland back to playing to their strengths. It's kiss the badge, long ball, try and get free-kicks and corners football. Nothing more than that.

He's been succesful, there's no denying that. But when it comes to anything more than one-dimensional hoofball, Ireland are indeed 'pish'.

We can all talk about how pish Ireland are and hoofball experts all we like, but at the end of the day, it makes us look even more jealous and bitter than we already are.

They have qualified and progressed into the next stages, something we haven't ever done in our history.

Fair play to them all, it hurts like hell but they have to be applauded.

Sorry, but the two goals that Ireland have scored so far at the Euros were anything but hit and hope long balls or one-dimensional football. The goal last night in particular was as sweet an attacking move as you'll see.

As I said, O'Neil has Ireland playing to their traditional strengths....using spirit and hard-work to compensate for technical deficiencies.

Northern Ireland do that as well, with an emphasis on a tight defence.

Scotland aren't even close to finding something like that. In fact, we probably try to play too much football.

And Georgia were already out of qualifying when you lost to them.

We play to our strengths. If you think our goals against Sweden and Italy came as a result of one dimensional hoofball then you need glasses.

Don't underestimate the influence of the Irish fans on their victory last night. The whole world loves Ireland now after the last couple of weeks of insecent propaganda about how good they are. The Italy players were visibly happy for the Irish guys. That good feeling shouldn't be underestimated including the effect it can ave on the psychology of their oponents. Even if the propaganda is just that...

The first few stories about the Irish fans were about the mess they made of bvd de clichy in Paris. Not that bad or unusual but it wasn't very positive. Then within the space of a few days we're being bombarded with videos of irish guys picking up some rubbish, singing to babies and attractive french girls, changing old folks car wheels. All very positive. Can't really argue with that.

Then it was like they could do no wrong. They blocked up a tram tunnel in bordeaux and turned it into something positive. England fans in that situation would have been tear gassed out of there by the CRS but the positive feeling towards the drunken pink faced green supporters was already so high that the police just sang back at them.

Then in Lille we see a video of them fixing a dented car THAT THEY VANDALISED and kicking a football into someone's apartment, yet it was looked at as something beautiful. That's when I realised we'd reached the tipping point. The Irish propaganda machine was in overdrive.

tbh our reputation as a fan base has always been positive  - we made alot of friends in Poland for our behaviour in euro 2012 and other tournaments and various away trips over the years........as have the scottish fans over the years through ye're reputation and behaviour at away games and tournaments.

At the end of the day its a game of football and there is no reason for any nations fans to go into a host country and act like a bunch of Pr*cks.

Great credit to the welsh and northern Irish fans for their behaviour also in france.....had a great laugh mixing with them over there

When you see the carry on of those idiots in the russian fan base  ......it just blows your mind to the stupidity of it.

While its nice to have our fan base appreciated.....massive credit must go to the french.....wonderful hosts.....Allez Les Bleus!

Ireland have played a swedish team who had gone so far down the route of give it to the superstar they had forgotten what a team sport even was

a belgian team that humped them

and an italian reserve team that had already qualified

however, massive congratulations to them as we would still have contrived to f*ck that up and their fans have been a shining light in the tournament
