I'm not sure I'd use Keir Hardie as a good example if I were you. When the Boer War broke out he gave bizarre speeches blaming Jewish financiers for starting the war. Several years later he wrote a fierce xenophobic article for a trade union journal attacking the recruitment of Eastern European immigrants for work in Scotland.
