Mentioned last night the funding has increased 15 to 20 times since 1996 when GB finished 36th in the medal table. You could argue we had underachieved for years especially as professionalism crept into the Olympics. But now we seem to employ the kind of state sponsored preparation that benefited the old communist bloc countries...
ibelieve!!!
Maybe it's already been mentioned but Baseball, Skateboarding, Surfing, Karate and Sports climbing(???) have been added to the list for Tokyo 2020 Bowls and squash were on the shortlist. thplinth
Running backwards, running sideyways, hopping on one leg, and possibly running on all fours just for the laughs should all be in if you can have butterfly and breaststroke and backstroke. And then of course you'd have the medley events where you'd start off running backwards, then sideyways for the next 100m then hopping and finally a sprint finish on all fours. It would still be more of a true olympic event than the ribbon on a stick shit.

TV presenters often get slagged off but what an excellent job Phil Jones does for the BBC. He interviews athletes in their highs and lows just after the race and does a fine job. The post race interview with Laura Muir was a case in point, at the beginning of the interview she was understandably very emotional and on the brink of tears, by the end she at least had a smile on her face. Seems to be genuine rapport between him and the athlete he interviews.

So you both jump off the top dale, and shoot an arrow at the target on the way down. I'd watch that. Albannach, who post on here infrequently, would be a shoe-in to win any belly flop competition, especially if it is at 4am on New Years Day. He'd win it on artistic impression, noise and volume of water displaced.

buckielugger
I've already been arguing for darts. it really annoys me that it isnt in olympics /commonwealths etc. its identical to archery as a sport - only the size is different. who would not want to see Peter Wright on the Olympic oche ? I presume you could play several sports half jaked but how many would be advisable is another matter - archery? clay pigeon shooting? walking in a straight line!
