Breaking: Its big Sam.

Thought id post it on here seeing as England are in our qualifying group.

It has come through as breaking news on SSNHQ that Sam Allardyce is going to be next England manager with official confirmation expected in next 24hrs.

England fans are a mixture of happiness and moans, a bit like on here regarding Strachan.

What do we think about this appointment lol?

Another bit of news is that Keith Downey says David Moyes is in advanced talks with Ellis Short.

As always happens with England when one manager fails, they go for someone who is the complete opposite so on that basis it's completely predictable.

They always take the view that manager X didn't work so we'll go for someone completely different, whereas perhaps what is needed is someone slightly different.

Allardyce is a manager who's teams aren't really known for playing expansive attractive football, really he's a guy whose reputation is that he won't get you relegated.  Added to the fact that he's got next to no - might even be none whatsoever - experience of European football makes it a really bizarre appointment.

He'll most likely get them through qualification but this really is Mike Bassett territory.

Aye touch of the Mike Bassets about Allardyce as England manager. I wish we had England as first game and try and catch them out. Think they'll have found an inevitable rhythm by the time we play in November

It's not qualifying that they struggle with - apart from Graham Taylor and Steve Mclaren.

I think Allardyce will do as well as manager. They will be tight, probably ugly to watch from a netural view - but if it works, then féck it, plat to your strengths -and rack up the wins.

The only issue will be if England start waltzing the group and friendlies and he ends up with a 90% win rate or so by playing the way he tends to and the press will then begin to challenge the sttyle of football etc, and demand more of players that previously have shown isn't yet possible. Whilst Hodgson had a pretty disastrous Euros ; his record is good for non-tournament football.

Our group won't be any easier with Allardyce over Hodgson. I expect England to win it well, possibly even all ten games.

Supposedly his parents are Scottish......

Nothing supposed  about it. His big sister was born in Scotland before they moved south.

First England manager who could've played for us?

Think Don Revie had a bit of Scottish blood too. When he was playing, not eligible for us I suppose just as Joe Baker wasn`t and Alex Cropley and Bob Wilson wouldn`t have been if a bit older.
