He has had 5 appearances this side of the England game. 3 of those were starts in Newcastle "reserve" sides in the FA Cup. He has 1 league start and 1 sub appearance in the league since the end of October. Nothing will change between now and Slovenia, he is 4th choice centre back at Newcastle and will have virtually no match sharpness come Slovenia. Its impossible for him to start IMO. Or at least it should be....

Proudscot will have him in. <_<

There is little to no alternative, 32 year old Berra or 31 year old Martin?

Both are playing every week at the same level that Hanley isn't playing at. That's a no brainer for me. We have to focus on the present and this campaign still. Hanley will be punted in summer when/if Newcastle go up. If he joins someone where he plays regularly then he is back in the picture next season for remainder of qualifiers. Until then he shouldn't be a starter.

playing Hanley would be insane

he's proven that if not playing club games his form is very poor

R Martin and Berra will have to be

at least they complement each other positionally

no one playing at that level should be anywhere near the squad

Don't think we're in a position to shut anyone down for the level they play at, International teams work in funny ways with unfancied players capable of doing big jobs for teams as we saw at the last Euros.

But I wouldn't call up McGregor, has all the attributes of a really good centre-half but prone to small lapses in matches (especially bigger games) that tend to prove costly.

john mcginn ?

McGinn is in for developmental purposes. He has the ability to be part of our team in the future (although he's wasted a couple of years of development at Hibs). That's why he's in the squad.

No Mulgrew? Reckon Martin has to start right back which leaves 32 year old Berra or 25 year old Hanley.

Bardsley has started all of Stokes february games at right back

although Strachan will pick Anya
