From the other day:-

"When Real Madrid play Sevilla FC in the UEFA Super Cup in the Norwegian city of Trondheim on Tuesday 9 August, the UEFA Foundation for Children will join Handicap International in condemning the use of explosive weapons in populated areas in recent and current conflicts worldwide. During the opening ceremony, the captains of both teams will be escorted by two Afghan and Syrian children with disabilities, now refugees in Norway. Together, they will carry the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League cups onto the pitch."

Football....politics....uefa

Exactly Flure. Mindlessly repeating their lie that there should be no politics in football, just no politics that affect their bottom line, i.e. sponsors not being happy etc,

But theres always sensible souls who see something and interpretate another thing into it. As far as I know do Hamas have own flags, symbols and insignias. Bit like somebody with a beard could support daesh in Syria/Iraq. Theres People in the north of ireland and other parts who see an irish tricolor and think of the Provies. If you wish to be offended you gonna find something. And thats coming from a celtic fan ;)

Don't be a plagiarist :)

I love political displays at sport, well ones that don't actually disturb the action.

Considering every major sporting event is designed with capitalism in mind, FIFA co-opt countries tax laws create special laws for stadia that contradict local laws and supersede them, Any talk of "no politics in sport" just gets snorts of ridicule from me.

This board is helplessly parochial and tribal at times.

Like invading israel and tearing down the wall? Throwing stones at israeli occupation forces? The raise awareness, boycott israeli goods, do collect money and show soludarity. I think that is pretty decent although i do not share their stance on israel and Hamas etc.at all!

That's illegal btw.  Just saying.....

it's understandable uefa have this approach; it's one of many societal issues where rules are put in place in a grey area to temper an issue.   I'd hope we're never at the point where no political expression is tolerated where a mass of usually working class people have congregated.  Similarly, wouldn't want every occasion full of activists either.  A point was made, there was no violence.  move on.

I know why news organizations would like to equate the Palestine flag with Hamas, i'd be careful of being a useful idiot and just regurgitating that though.

Don't be a part of the demonisation of Palestine.

The Palestine Flag used to be banned, artwork using the 4 colours of the flag was illegal as well. you'd go to jail for having artwork with those colours in it.

The more Hasbara can demonise Palestine the more they can get away with.

There are folk who would love the Palestinian Flag to represent Hamas.

Only for public funded institutions.

Another abuse of power by the Tory government.

I think it extends to any organisation or individual. You cannot comply with or obey to participate in the boycott of Israel. You can of course just choose not to buy their goods yourself, like you can choose to spend your money on whatever you want.

Are folk actually saying they look at the Palestinian flag and think Hamas? Like, really? Grown adults actually think that? You have my sympathies if you do.

It seems only Ally Bear and Dan Cake do, to be fair.

I'm no expert so you may be right, just a memory i have of reading about it earlier in the year. Just an example of lobbying.

Here's a thought. If wee Declan and his pals are that concerned about the plight of Palestine, why not display their concerns at every game like they did against the Israelis?
Because each and every other game they have someone else to try and wind up, that's why.
Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a wind-up of the opposition but to portray theirselves as some kind of morally just freedom campaigners is pure bullshite.

Exactly

And as i have said whilst support for the people of Palestine is a good thing flying Palestinian flags can also be seen by some as support for Hamas

Getting involved in middle east disputes isnt wise - there's plenty of threads about it in anything goes ....
