ABZ - Frankfurt - Friday morning

The incoming flight was cancelled tonight (not sure why), so no plane here tomorrow.

Have been in a queue on the Lufthansa helpline for over half an hour now, but struggling to see what the options might be!?

You better hope it's a big plane operating tomorrow's Copenhagen flight!

On this flight as well, did you get any joy via the Lufthansa help line

Still on hold - almost 1hr 45min now!! I've had a good search about - no chance of getting there with Lufthansa tomorrow... only option I can see is a BA / Air Malta combo, but doubt that will be offered. Could be looking at travelling on Saturday now - if that's not all booked!

Was meant to be on that flight.

Now been changed to 16:30 BA to London then onto Malta.

Just the 11hr delay from initial departure time.

Is that BA to Heathrow and then Air Malta?

Eventually got through. Now on:

14:15 ABZ to Heathrow with BA and then

19:05 Heathrow to Malta with Air Malta

Arriving 7 hours later than planned, but was fearing the worst a couple of hours ago!

For anyone affected by this, check if you are due compensation.

If your flight is delayed by more than 3 hours you are entitled to 250 Euros compensation (by EU law). Not sure about cancellations and re-routings but check it out.

Good shout. Will surely be entitled to something if arriving at a destination 7 hours later than scheduled...

Aberdeen to Malta should be over 3,500km meaning you get €400 for a 3 hour delay.

Its EU261 that you're looking for.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just called Lufthansa claims desk earlier today and they said I am not entitled to a refund as they cancelled their service due to "unforeseen circumstances" and therefore do not need to pay out!

Going through my travel insurance company now to seek compensation as it appears Lufthansa aren't budging!

This will be the reason everything went wrong. http://www.thelocal.de/20160901/confused-mum-with-2-kids-sparked-frankfurt-airport-evacuation

We ended up stuck in Frankfurt for a night (Lufthansa paid for hotel, transport and food) and put on a flight the next day to Malta via Munich.

Because it is not the airlines fault in this case they don't have to pay out any compensation for delays or cancelled flights. I think the only thing they have to do is either give you your money back or find some other way to get you to your destination.

Airlines are notorious for this. Don't accept what they say, demand what you're entitled to.

Exactly. They will pay out eventually.

They timed it well to send me their satisfaction survey this afternoon..  that was completed with some brutal honesty. I am expecting an email / phone call shortly to discuss my case

'Security Issues' are one of their get-outs in the small print. However, I think it's a stretch to use a security scare in Frankfurt on a Wednesday as an excuse for a cancelled flight from Aberdeen on the Friday.

I'm lazy and can't be bothered with the time and hassle of corresponding directly with the airline, so I've employed a no-win no-fee company that specialises in this. If successful, they'll take about a third of the 400 euros, but it'll be worth it for me.

The flight on the Thursday was cancelled due to a knock on effect due to the 'security breach' on Wednesday. I.e the Wednesday night FRA-ABZ flight was cancelled due to the security breach.

I can confirm the flight on the Friday morning was cancelled due to a technical fault with the plane on the incoming flight on the Thursday evening..

Who have you used?

I was meant to be on that flight too, eventually got put on the 1315 to AMS, then on to Rome and then to Malta.

http://flightcompensationdirect.com/

This was the first hit I got with google. There are many others offering the same service, possibly with less commission.
