Ak91
We beat Ireland in what was a must win game at the time, in November.

Who is 'we'? do you think everyone that stood at Hampden last night voted 'yes'? Or are we only allowed to support Scotland now if we voted yes? (trust me, after last night that sounds like a great option! )

iainmac1
If we were independent we would have won at least 2 world cups by now.
Guest flumax
My oh my. Not everything is about independence. The only possibile, and highly unlikely way I can see how the referendum could play a role, is if GS is playing a team who are split 50/50 and has bad blood between individuals through indyref arguments . That or he is only playing a team who share his position instead of best man for the job. Both unlikely mechanisms for our p!ss poor performances

Clyde1998
For the record: we've played eighteen since the referendum: Pld 18; Won 9; Drew 4; Lost 5; GF 32; GA 19; GD +13; Pts 31; P/G 1.72; Won 50%; Lost 28% Over the eighteen games before the referendum: Pld 18; Won 7; Drew 4; Lost 7; GF 18; GA 20; GD -2; Pts 25; P/G 1.39; Won 39%; Lost 39% In terms of results, we've been better since the referendum... P/G means points per game.

Orraloon
Fletcher scored a grand total of 1 goal before the referendum but has scored another 8 after it. The referendum result clearly perked him up a wee bit. Must be a Nawman.

Just a coincidence I'm sure, but an interesting one... A point made in the recent Scotlands game series. Tom devine, Henry McLeish, Alec Salmond, some academic from the 70s They stated pre devolution, Scotland only had one vehicle for global voice and that was through football. Basically Scotland had nothing of itself until then. Since then Scotland has become a more confident nation through other means, mainly political. Another interesting point was about jock stein wanting rid of the annual England Scotland match, as everyone's focus was on that, it was meant in a football context wrt qualifications performance, but said by Eck so I reckon he meant more societal. Fascinating series. Shame it's now off iplayer.
