So can you name who you'd play in their place? Greer is a no no with many fans here and Berra has precious few fans either.

Walter Smith................OR REALLY JUST ANYONE.....George burley was better(ok maybe not).

I cant name anyone.............my point is those two don't work(so Berra/souttar/someone/anyone else has to be tried).

It's not inconceivable that we've appointed 3 poor managers.

Well Smith, Stachan and Vogts had impressive club careers as managers even if Burley and Levein were far less so but they all did one thing - failed to get us to qualify. If you have successful managers who cannot make a difference on three seperate occasions they cannot all be being incompetent. Sorry I am not buying that. Therefore you ask questions of the quality available.

It's also not inconceivable that Smith and McLeish both left at the right time. If Strachan had quit after his first 15 games, history would view him very differently.

Guess work for Smith and Mcleish.

For Strachan it isnt he has been proven to not be good enough and even his earlier games were nowhere near as good as people made out.

They all have appeared incompetent at times. Granted the quality is lacking as well.

As soon as John McGinn comes on then it gets beyond belief , piss poor player playing in a piss poor league n he's picked before championship players in England

I think you are wrong.

Our best players tonight were the ones who play in Scotland - Tierney, Griffiths, McGinn (when on).

No on is arguing against the quality of squad being average.

Smith gave us our best run in harder group and none previous managers got as big a chance to qualify as Strachan did in the new Euros 24 team set up.

I doubt any of them had a group as poor as this one to try and make a run at either.

On the grounds that literally no other manager in the world would start Chris Martin at home to a team like Lithuania, I'd happily sack him tonight.

We're not good.  We lack a good defence which a lot of the teams who qualified for the euros based their success on, but we are better than he's currently getting out of us and setting us up defensively without the players to do it is absolutely mental.  Griffiths would have ran beyond Skrtel all night but instead we give him the easiest night of his career.  As for a central midfield 3 with no one getting up in support, I know that's not a recipe for success.

He should go now before everyone forgets he did a good job to start with.

Plays in a way that a poor defence is less exposed.

Goes out to try and out pass Slovakia with a midfield poor on ball and leaves defence exposed.

We should have gone there and sat deep to protect the weakest area of team then try to hit them with pace on break.

Strachan played a high defensive line, a midfield that tried to out pass them and no pace going forward. They just waited and picked us off with a defence too easy to get at.

He had no plan.

.

This is depressingly true!

Anyways on a depressing night for Scottish football I am calling it a night.

We all agree Strachan must go but how the group sits just now I think that won't happen just yet. Hope I am wrong but don't think so.

As for who I'd appoint well if we are talking Scots then Derek McInnes. If we go down the foreign route I'd like to see someone in the mould of Wenger (not him obviously) but someone who can work with and mould youngsters.

I'm now going to retract anything positive or anything I said in support of your earlier posts after that !

I think he should go.

He came in and did a good job after a horrible time under Levein, but we are steadily heading back that way. I can't recall the last game we played good football. Some people were getting hugely excited about gubbing Malta 5-1 away - after a huge amount of luck e.g red card(s), penalty's given very harshly.

Our defence has been shockingly bad. We don't look comfortable or strong at all. It's probably harsh to criticise him as he does pull off some excellent saves, but Marshall can often flog a goal at the wrong time. Our defence look like a team that should be ranked 100th in the world. Against any decent side they are constantly under-pressure, make too many errors or even let off the hook by their opponents messing up. Slovakia tonight could've been through more times than they were if it wasn't for their own last minute sloppy pass or bad decision making.

Playing S Fletcher upfront on his own is never going to work against a decent team, if you are expecting to win the match. Fletcher is a useful player to have and very good at times holding the ball, but he isn't good enough to play that role on his own - unless we were winning 1-0 and trying to hold out.

Some of the general play is just awful and whilst Strach has to take some blame for the system, tactics and his arrogrance; many of the players just are not good enough, but again that is no excuse as we've seen with Northern Ireland - you can get results with limited footballers. Too many times tonight professional players ran the ball out like a Sunday league team would do, our ball control is terrible, not many of the players look comfortable on the ball.

Do it for the lulz

Allardyce would be an ultra fun option but could even prove one that works. He specialises in poor squads doing better than they should. He also apparently knows how to bend the rules ... maybe that's what we need....Jack Charlton worked wonders for Ireland...

Alex ferguson for me. We can but dream

Aye dream all you want as it won't happen. Legend of a manager but evidently one that does not give a shit about the national side, He chucked the job after the 86 World Cup for United who were a big but labouringf club then. And we have had umpteen manager hunts over 20 years and he was always quick to rule himself out. Sad.

Would you be disappointed if he took the job after leaving us 30 years ago?
