Eastiebeastie
Someone needs to explain why we head to a foreign country and seek out the Irish pub ? Usually overpriced and absolutely rammed. Far nicer local hostelries, with decent local beers at half the price without the token Limerick brik a brac and Celtic tops on the walls. peever1745
There are some nice bars around the area of the Tortilla Factory and some on the main drag towards the ground.

Don't know, will pop in, but if it's rammed we will head elsewhere. J
Debian
Irish pubs abroad are shiteholes. Head to a wee local boozer just off a main square. Cheap cracking beer and lovely nanjani.

McNab
Warsaw (and (Poland) has a great emerging beer scene. Avoid the pish plastic Irish bars and try something better with a variety of beers - and enjoy the football craic with the locals This one's braw Kufle i Kapsle http://www.kufleikapsle.pl/ in Nowogrodzka 25 in the New Town has 12 draught and huge bottled choice. Not far away there's Chmielarnia at Twarda 42 http://www.chmielarnia.waw.pl/ has 16 draught and also does a good range of pakoras and curries at reasonable prices. Excellent....drinking Polish Guinness in an overfull Irish pub isn't my idea of wee trip abroad. Do they have an equivalent of our dark beers, heavy / export for us auld yins? OLAS
Excellent....drinking Polish Guinness in an overfull Irish pub isn't my idea of wee trip abroad. Do they have an equivalent of our dark beers, heavy / export for us auld yins? I've been impressed with the number of beers available here. Perhaps the Porters-type beer would suit you, but they're almost double the strength! Książęce czerwone (image) is one of my favourites. It's darker than your regular pint. Not heavy though. Debowe Mocne (image) is also dark (and strong) and more heavy than the above. If stuck Lech and Tyskie Gronie are the best of the major commercial beers (in my opinion). fanatyk
Speaking of beers scene...lots of small and smaller breweries emerging lately in Poland. Try Ciechan, Lwowek, Cornelius or one of the Kormoran brewery products and you`ll never come back to mainstream beer-like crap!
King Of Paisley
Fanatyk - so Tyskie and Lech are to be avoided then! Can't wait for this one!
fanatyk
Not avoided...but you can buy these in every Tesco in UK... Better to try something local and simply better than mass production, in my opinion. Lech is not bad as for popular and cheap beer, so is Perla from "Browary Lubelskie". But it`s still nowhere near the class of beers mentioned earlier.
tam4ritchie
Why does it bother so many people where others drink?
runningtings
Personal opinion Tam, don't think anyone is telling anyone else what to do. I've not been to Poland before, personally I like to sample local produce wherever I go, so I'll be going for some of the aforementioned hopefully. Khana Lagur
Not one for hunting out Irish bars when following Scotland, but the one in Graz was superb. Indeed. Flann O'Briens. If I recall correctly, some Edinburgh reprobates successfully managed to get the British Consul in Graz to fund most of their drinks in there the night before the game
OLAS
Flann O'Briens. That's the one. To my embarrassment and amazement, I woke up on a plastic chair outside the pub early morning while folk were going to work... sporran undipped. Jumped a tram to the hotel and the Solway boys were already in the bar so duly bought a round with my 'new found' wealth.

fanatyk
If you pop in to the Lidl while in Poland you may find such treasures on the shelves: http://www.lidl.pl/pl/oferta.htm?id=305# as they have huge promotion of regional beers.
