BBC Manchester are saying that Maloney has went to Chicago Fire for an undisclosed fee.

I really don't think it's that bad a move for him !

It does show a lack of ambition, though, and that his career is fizzling out. Who knows how much more we might have got out of Miller or Robson had they not went to N.America at a similar age.

I'm not saying he should be out of the team, but it opens a door for others to replace him. GMS, Forrest, Snodgrass are the obvious choices.

TBH at least he will be playing every week..... doubt he would have been able to force himself into the Everton or Celtic starting line up, and I think Leicester are as good as down, so options were not great to start with.

Chances are he will probably be back in the UK within 6 months anyway as lets face it, our players don't have a great record of hanging around very long over there in recent years.

Until Snodgrass is back, suspect Strachan will continue to call him up and play him regardless.

As wanderer says as long as Maloney gets first team football that's all that matters. Just keep him match fit and sharp for Scotland.

It's a risk for a Premier League manager to take buy an undoubtedly skilful but very injury prone player like Maloney. A move to Everton would have been brilliant, but it's not happened. Ach well.

Robbie Keane's been playing in the MLS since 2011 and he's still managed to play quite well and score goals (including one against us) for his country.

Barry Robson's international career came to an end at the right time. And when he came back from Canada he initially could only get a contract at a third tier English club.

Well, because he is essentially fully developed, with his experience of CL, international and EPL, it doesn't really matter where he plays. If fit, he'll do a job. I used the same argument for McFadden and Gordon.

It's more about the attitude and enthusiasm he has that a move to the MLS reflects. His heart may not be in it anymore and his motivation may not be there. That may not be the case, but I worry it will be.

Depends on Maloney himself and how well he trains, plays, attitude etc. Is he moving there to continue playing football at a reasonable level every week or because he has one foot in retirement? Guess we'll find out. Hope it's the former because he's been arguably our best player so far this campaign.

Overreaction to the Maloney transfer - SPL is no better than MLS and we have no David Villa, Frnak Lampard, Robbie Keane etc - I don't see it as a bad move at all

Yep, 32 years old and offered the chance to earn $$$$$$ living in Chicago. Who on here would knock that back?....

The standard of the MLS is getting better and better, so I don't think it's such a bad move at all.

Ive said this too. I seriously thibk in the next 5-10 years they will attract big names in their prime rather than retirement.

It all depends on his attitude towards it. Robbie Keane, for example, has taken it seriously, and continues to be a key member of his National side. Even Beckham didn't go massively downhill when he was there.

I can't shake the feeling though that some players look at it as a last decent pay-day, and a step into semi-retirement. Hopefully Maloney won't be one of those.

I think some of these guys also have the vision to want to experience new countries and cultures.

Guys like Lampard, Beckham, Henry etc are loaded already so it can't be just about the money for many of them.

Maloney will be loaded too compared to most normal folk, so I think he and many others also like to broaden their horizons and experience new things.

If true..

I say good on ya Sean he has done his bit for Scotland and fought through his serious injury.

But for future Scotland wait and see probably coming to an end soon anyway.

This campaign could be maloneys last shot at a major championship. A few others are the wrong side of 30 including our captain scott brown. Surely this is our chance and these players who are over 30 know it.

the forgotten man, has he actually done anything at club level in the last few years ? never mentioned.

Think just unlucky with injuries and QPR going out and buying themselves a new player just to get goals at every chance.

Strachan seemed to like him and seemed like his loss was Anyas gain as I think that was who he wanted to play in that position at first.
