Reports in English press that we have made/going to make an approach to Alex Mowatt at Leeds United about switching from England to play for us.

Mark McGhee was at the Leeds game last night, and when asked the Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn said "I would imagine they're interested, he's a talented boy".

His mum and dad are both Scottish as are all of his Family but he was born in England, i work with his cousin and he said if he had a choice over England or Scotland he would always choose Scotland

He chose England over us a few years back when we named him in a U17 squad the same day England named him in their squad.........

if he gets called up ahead of Gauld then that's a disgrace.

mcghee seems hell bent on trawling the english leagues for english born players in an attempt to prove his worth. he has an appalling record at finding players at club level thinking back to the dross he signed for aberdeen

End of the day Strachan picks the squad..... McGhee will only be doing his job of looking at players and then reporting to Strachan, who will have final say after he has watched the players (how many players has McGhee mentioned in the press as being close to call up's over the last year or so, and very few of them ever do? He has mentioned Arfield and Kevin McDonald on numerous occasions).... at Brighton v Leeds last night, apart from Mowatt, Geer and Liam Cooper were also playing.

this has nothing to do with Gauld. if his parents are Scottish (as claimed above), what's the problem?

As far as I can see, he has only been involved in a hand full of U19 squads, and only gained 1 cap almost a full year ago.

Until Strachan comes out with something, will not be looking to much into McGhee actions (though Cooper was hotly tipped for a call up few month ago, so maybe Strachan is using his influence at Leeds a little bit?)

great another Englishman, keep going there will be no scots playing for the scotland international team

Don't get over-excited about these sorts of stories. The media always lap them up because it's like the transfer speculation they get at club level - it fills up column inches.

The fact is that out of the starting eleven against Ireland in November only Russell Martin, Maloney and Steven Fletcher were born outside Scotland and Maloney and Fletcher have Scottish mums and went to schools in Scotland.

We're very far away from "no Scots playing for Scotland."

and also Craig Mackail-Smith!

according to whoscored, CMS has been rubbish all season, but last night had a good game, even getting an assist.

also according to whoscored Greer and Cooper were both solid. I imagine Cooper might be the real reason McGhee was at the game.

It is possible that McGhee was there to watch Mowat, because he can play on the left of midfield. However, last night, apparently, he had a nightmare.

With him being only 20, it will be interesting to see if he gets an U21 call up.

I would say Cooper is more likely..... fact someone asked about Mowatt to the Leeds manager on McGhee being there suggests something has been said behind the sense about Mowatt switching to us (agent maybe? as would seem rather a waste of time chasing this up if he has no desire to switch in the first place).
