Trident Whistleblower: Disaster Waiting To Happen

Recommended Posts

A Royal Navy whistleblower who wrote in an explosive report that Trident is a “disaster waiting to happen” has said he will hand himself in.

Able Seaman, William McNeilly, went absent without leave last week following the damning 18-page report revealing the dangers onboard HMS Victorious including fire risks, leaks and a lack of security checks.

The report contained a series of allegations about the Trident submarines based at Faslane on the Clyde.

After the report was published, Mr McNeilly went missing and the Royal Navy confirmed that it was “concerned for his whereabouts and wellbeing”.

Just started reading about this so not sure what specifically is happening though, away to read more.

Damned right it's a "Disaster waiting to happen". Just wait until Boris gets his hands on the big red button.

Thankfully even if Boris was able to put his digits on the button the American owners of the system wouldn't let him fire it..

What amazes me is the fact that with all the Trident stuff no one has pointed out that we basically lease the system and have no real decision as to when and if the missiles would be fired.

Not sure what to think of this one. Not saying this is the case here, but the forces are full of disgruntled people who've had a bad annual report, haven't been promoted, didn't get the posting they wanted etc. This guy may well be genuine, in which case I wish him well and hope his courage is rewarded with a full investigation of what he's reported (although the military justice system doesn't go easy on those it deems to have broken the code of omertà) Think I'll reserve judgement until I know more.

Trident cannot even be used if the Americans decide to veto it, politically and technologically, despite what blah blah pish they tell you. This is partly why the UK is in utter lockstep with US foreign policy, our main weapons system is essentially a Uk operated franchise of the USA. Trident is like our subscription cost.

It is total ing whank. At the least the French have something meaningful.

Also they built the facility 30 miles from the main population centre in Scotland. They just don't give a shit...

Plenty of opponents say so, eg. Portillo. It just gets conveniently ignored when the subject is broached by some...
