Toepoke
Too bad, was always a great "never knew they were still alive" card to play. A fair innings for old eyebrows...
Alibi
Used to make some decent sports cars. That Healey 3000 was always a bit of a beast to drive.

Eisegerwind
Good innings. Had to go check on others from when I had an interest in party politics of that era, all died apart from Arthur Scargill. I'd love to find a vid of the Scargill/Parkinson interview where Parky gave him an easy time cos he was his pal, but ridiculed him when he told Parky that Thatcher wanted to close every pit in the UK. I'm sure there were words to the effect 'c'mon Arthur you can't be serious'.

Eisegerwind
Jeez, when was all that stuff,3 day weeks and power cuts. I have vague memories of having a paraffin tilley lamp for light and a calor gas ring for cooking on when the power cuts were on. Seems unimaginable now, but hey, that was the power of the workers not all that long ago.

ErsatzThistle
Wasn't Healey partly behind the Westminster cover up of North Sea oil's true potential from the Scottish public during the 1970s ?
scotlad
Wasn't Healey partly behind the Westminster cover up of North Sea oil's true potential from the Scottish public during the 1970s ? Yep. He pretty much 'fessed up to it in an interview with Holyrood magazine last year. The UK was down on its uppers at that point and with the SNP gaining momentum the last thing his government was going to do was let that particular cat out of the bag. It was the subsequent Tory government who really reaped the fruits of the oil boom though, as much of Healey's spending had gone on infrastructure and the like.
