I'd love to find a vid of the Scargill/Parkinson interview where Parky gave him an easy time cos he was his pal, but ridiculed him when he told Parky that Thatcher wanted to close every pit in the UK. I have vague memories of having a paraffin tilley lamp for light and a calor gas ring for cooking on when the power cuts were on. He pretty much 'fessed up to it in an interview with Holyrood magazine last year. The UK was down on its uppers at that point and with the SNP gaining momentum the last thing his government was going to do was let that particular cat out of the bag. It was the subsequent Tory government who really reaped the fruits of the oil boom though, as much of Healey's spending had gone on infrastructure and the like.
