Glingerburn is running in the 2.15 today - 15/8 available so think I'll have a score on it - was impressive when I saw it run at Kelso in February.

Not a National fan but will probably do Night in Milan e/w.

I've got Glingerburn in a treble with Saphir Du Re and Don Cossack.

I like the National but I'll be glad when it's out the way and we can get back to proper racing on the flat.

Anybody been to Kempton ? Does the the train station have a ticket barrier ?

No ticket gates -

National down to 39 runners due to Carlito Brigante being pulled out.

The Saint James, Glingerburn, Caroles Destrier and Al Ferof make up todays selection for my e/w yankee.

As for tomorrow I've managed to narrow the field down to six but picking two or three out of that is a struggle!

Will they not put in a reserve?

Not much chat this year, just the trends/stats (if your into that sort of thing).

Weight – 3 winners in 30 years carried more than 11st – Hedgehunter (11-1) in 2005, Don’t Push it (11-5) in 2010 and Neptune Collonges (11-6) in 2012.

Hedgehunter and Don’t Push It both carried 15lb more than bottom weight, Neptune Collonges 20lb more than bottom weight.

Bottom weight – no runners out of handicap this year. Bottom weight on 10-2. Bobbyjo in 1999 the only winner in umpteen years out of the handicap, and then only by 1lb.

Winner should come from 10-2 to 11-3 weight band but better ground may influence that.

Days Since Last Run – 1 winner since 1988, Neptune Collonges (56 days), had its last run outside the 16 - 49 days period that all other winners fell into.

Breeding – no French-bred winners from 1909 – 2008. 3 French-bred winners in last 6 years – Mon Mome (2009), Neptune Collonges (2012) and Pineau De Re (2014). Possibly time to disregard this as a filter?

Age

No 7 year old winner since 1940.

No 13 year old winner since 1923.

Three 12 year old winners since 1981.

Two 8 year old winners since 1984.

Last 10 winners in a row been 9-11 year old.

Distance – Only 1 winner since 1988 (Montys Pass, 2003) hadn’t won a CHASE of 3m 1f (25f). Montys Pass won a 3m (24f) Class A Hurdles Handicap. Gay Trip in 1970 the last winner who hadn’t won a race of at least 3m (24f).

Past Winner – no repeat winner since Red Rum in 1970’s.

Experience – Only 3 winners (Bindaree 2002, Numbersixvalverde 2006, Pineau De Re 2014) since 1990 didn’t have at least 3 years experience of Chasing.

Class – Only 2 winners (Party Politics 1991, Pineau De Re 2014) since 1991 hadn’t won a race worth at least £19k. Party Politics was 2nd in races worth £37k and £23k.

My 5 against the field are

Godsmejudge

Al Co

Monbeg Dude

Wyck Hill

Alvarado

Godsmejudge won 2013 Scottish National, 2nd in 2014.

Al Co won 2014 Scottish National

Monbeg Dude won 2013 Welsh National and 7th in National last year (having a go at a previous National is a positive IMO)

Wyck Hill won Eider Chase in 2014, fell in this years race.

Alvarado was 4th in National last year of 1lb lower, prepared to give it a go despite it being off track for 52 days and therefore not falling into the 16-49 days off track band.

Good luck to all, even the Bears, bar the Weegie Dons ;-)
