exile
So... Scottish Labour are just a branch office and Wesminster MPs are dinosaurs. Who've thunk it?
thewelk
I always got the impression Alex Salmond held back a bit on Johann, but that Nichola would have no qualms. He would have got a woman abuser tag from the press.
Rossy
When I read the Daily Record's comments on her I thought they were describing a mix of Nelson Mandela and Abraham Lincoln.....baffling. She was the leader that North British Labour deserved.....weak, insular, and intellectually challenged. A toon cooncillor appointed above her status and totally controlled by London. As pointed out, if she wanted true independence for Labour north of the border she should have championed a Yes vote.

Padre Andrew
Michael Connarty MP on just now saying it’s got to be Gordon Brown. There’s nothing to say the Scottish leader has to be in Holyrood, which is pretty much exactly the problem for Labour. They are still treating Holyrood as a toon council. Armchair Bob
I thought brown was standing down at the next election ? Anyway, why not cut out the middle man and go straight for Jackie Bird?

King Of Paisley
Agree with Flora on this one - never in my life have I hated a political organization such as the Labour Party, even more than the Tories under Thatcher. And that's saying something. Will never forgive the sight of senior Labour figures dancing arm in arm with the Tories at the referendum result. And getting into bed with the neo fascists that is the Orange Order. Mightly pleased that this contemptuous slug has been shot into oblivion. Perhaps the reason for her undoing was that she wasn't genetically programmed to make political decisions.................................. Padre Andrew
Please let it be that someone has stored all those images of Labour and Tory politicians celebrating together. Every election leaflet in Labour heartlands deserves to include them.
Khana Lagur
Nothing about Broon points to him wanting the job. Firstly: he's done his bit in saving the union, so job done. He's moved on from day-to-day politics, hence his describing himself as an ex-politician, not to mention his awful Commons attendance record. Secondly: he's sees himself as being a global statesman (let's not forget he saved the banks, saved the global economy and saved the 'greatest' political union the world has ever known). He sees himself as too high profile for a branch office job. Thirdly: Lamont has just resigned because Labour in Scotland is being run (over-run) by Westminster. If it wants to revive its fortunes in Scotland it cannot appoint a Westminster MP as leader. That would only entrench the view that Holyrood is a second-tier parliament controlled (ultimately) by Westminster. It would further hasten their decline up here and play into the hands of the SNP/Yes camp. Fourthly: whoever is Labour leader in Scotland would probably have to step down after they are trounced in the Scottish elections in 2016. That would be too much of a humiliation for Broon. In saying that, he's an arrogant, self-loving khunt who probably covers himself in chocolate and licks it off and there's no telling what his ego might drive him blindly into. If the role of God doesn't come up for election soon, Broon might just be tickled by the possibility of saving Labour in Scotland. Either way, Johann Lamont stepping down is a huge blow for the live comedy scene in Scotland. I actually hate Labour in Scotland more than Thatcher. At least Thatcher was honest in her intent. Lamont was just a cowardly hypoctite.

Colkitto
If Brown took the job he would be under real scrutiny and not get away with the media fawning and protection. During the referendum he got soundbite headlines without the scrutiny of live interviews. He crumbles under scrutiny that's why he failed so miserably as PM and why he steers clear of them today. Fred_Zeppelin
Alex Massie on Labour:- "They’re the political equivalent of Rangers football club. All this strutting around shouting We are the People. All these delusions of grandeur and future glory. Once upon a time it inspired some kind of terror. Now it’s simply laughable. In each case these people have no idea how daft they look. People are tittering. A party can cope with being hated. That’s to be expected and just the way it goes. But a party cannot survive ridicule. Denial is a river in Glasgow."http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/2014/10/alas-poor-johann-lamont-a-symptom-not-the-cause-of-labours-decline-in-scotland/
