Last night just proved that when Lafferty puts his mind to it he can be a fantastic player. If, and it's a big if, he manages to stay on the pitch and injury free we might just have a chance of finishing 3rd. Was a bit shocked that Brunt played ahead of Daniel Lafferty at left back but was more shocked that Brunty had a good game in a NI shirt. Another plus point was getting Conor McLaughlin capped so the Free State can't get him now. Bring on the Faroese in a half built Windsor. Like your optimism. ...NI did of course qualify for the world cup finals in 1986. Will we qualify this time round? We've gone into that group as a pot 5 team in the draw. It will be a monumental achievement to qualify. All we've done so far is beat, what was on the night, quite a poor Hungary team. I wouldn't go to the games if I didn't think NI will qualify for a major tournament one day. We've made a decent start to this campaign. Fully expect our team to give their all and our fans will experience a roller coaster of a ride as always. We'll see where we're positioned in the group a year from now before getting too excited. Third place and a playoff would be an achievement. If we can get a settled team and Lafferty has his sensible head on then who knows! After the Faroese at home we are away to Greece and Romania so if we are still in with a shout in November then I might start getting the French phrase book out. They're not the greatest team but as you well know any away win in international football is a good win.
