exile
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/dec/26/labour-bloodbath-scotland-general-election-2015-snp-westminster But will such a scale of Labour collapse actually materialise? Surely if the race for PM becomes a close 2 horse race, the proportion backing the big 2 likely to go up? Interesting to see the Tories going down and UKIP overtake Lib Dems (though that is votes not seats)
Dave78
I was so disappointed when i realised the headline of this story was metaphorical.
ErsatzThistle
I don't think we'll get the landslide some people expect. FPTP will feck us over in terms of seats. However the vote will undoubtedly go up and we should definitely gain a couple of seats. If, just if, we did get a large amount of nationalist MP's I'd like to see them agitating for a referendum on proportional representation at Westminster with a mixed member system (not that "Alternate Vote" bollocks).Just a thought but could Ukip taking votes from the Tories and right wing New Labour types help us out in places like Argyll and such like ? exile
Presumably turnout and tactical voting will also play a factor. And of course the don't knows and so-called silent majority.
Robroysboy
I see the labour party being lead by jim " judas" murphy as a positive. The most hated man in scotland in my opinion. Bloodbath, yes please. Nothing but contempt for that murphy.
irnbruman
I wonder who the UKIP prospective voters are. Disillusioned Tory voters in Scotland? English people in Scotland? Orange Order? Racists?
Padre Andrew
A letter from a self-proclaimed Tory in the Perthshire Advertiser (don’t laugh: it’s widely read around these parts) calls for an anti-SNP alliance at the general election. He’s pretty safe that he won’t be forced to vote Labour to keep the SNP out, but says he has voted tactically in the past. And amid a growing number of Yes badges, yesterday I saw my first ‘No Thanks’ badge since September. I think they’re starting to get worried. Holty
If a large majority of the 1.6m Yes voters go out and vote SNP, Labour seats will fall all over the country. I believe this WILL happen.
Ally Bongo
Can we get postal votes banned before the election ? Only then would i be confident
Orraloon
Can we get postal votes banned before the election ? Only then would i be confident Probably too late. I think they have already been counted. Labour are winning.
Padre Andrew
If a large majority of the 1.6m Yes voters go out and vote SNP, Labour seats will fall all over the country. I believe this WILL happen. Turnout was crucial to that 1.6m, and at 85% it was almost unprecedented. People in their 20s, 30s, 40s who’d never voted at a general election voted for the first time at the Indyref. Our task will be to get these people out to vote in May, and at the 2016 election. weekevie04
Fingers crossed - we keep this strong lead. Means nothing, but all the Yessers I ken are voting SNP next year. ''It takes 5 minutes and I'll do it'' said the one who hadn't voted since 2005 before the Ref. Fear we'll get squeezed though, and we've got the scratch your back with next year's 2016 vote. I'm still yet to meet someone who will admit they voted no. The 2 Nos I ken both abstained ''could nae vote no. So didn't go''.
thewelk
It's not just yessers. My sister and my dad voted no and they're both going to vote SNP. That's when it's clear that labour are in deep trouble. I won't be happy though until they shut down.
Padre Andrew
A pal of mine, lifelong Labour voter, has switched to the SNP. He says everything Labour used to stand for has been betrayed by Murphy and Dugdale; and he’s angry about this. There’s real fertile territory out there. stocky
As a lifelong SNP member, I would swap today and all the days since the Referendum with Labour..... I would swap a winning Indy vote for a split party and a crash in the polls... even disdain from the voters.. We would be Independent after all.... I take no real joy from Labours collapse... I knew the only way to save Labour in Scotland and UK ) was a YES vote,. and I still stand by that.. I take no great joy from being correct. exile
The thing is, there is no actual collapse just yet... no material change, in terms of votes or seats. Anyone remember when the Lib Dems were riding high in the opinion polls, ad Nick Clegg was (I think?) the most popular leader just before the last general election? scoobydoo
The thing that would concern me is the number of donkeys representing the snp after the ge next year.
Hertsscot
I can't vote SNP because there won't be a candidate in deepest darkest Hertfordshire but as some one who until fairly recently was a natural Labour voter I hope they get the kicking they deserve. Whatever the opinion polls say I still reckon Milliband's virtually unelectable.
wanday
It won't happen without a lot of work on the streets - they are out there working already.
