adamntg
To me, it seems Sbragia is more worried about his own cv than he is the development of young players. I'm as passionate a scotland fan as they come, but I don't care if the under 19s get humped every game as long as they are developing for the future. Think things might have back fired on Sbragia with the publicity his stone age comments received however. Aye, he's pissed on his chips, the fanny. ParisInAKilt
Surely his tactical approach and vision was discussed during recruitment? Harper plays 4131 for Madrid and this is the formation the full side plays Yet Ricky wants to play whatever he wants to win games
Magnum
Good to see that Kevin Gallacher has spoke up for Harper and criticised Sbragia's attitudes. Craig Brown's comments show that he clearly knows nothing about Jack Harper and has assumed he's just part of a kickabout training squad at Madrid which as we all know is completely untrue. I'd also bet a tenner that Brown think's Ryan Gauld made a mistake going to Portugal and not to some dead end English Championship side. I wouldn't pay much attention to anything that Craig Brown says now. He's old and totally out of date. I know a young guy that is with Aberdeen under 16s. He said that, a wee while back, they had a training session with Craig Brown, and it was atrocious and the worst they had ever had, as he was just so out of date !!! Means well but his thoughts on coaching and young players are not worth much now.

"Forget training with the ball, it's plenty of laps round the track and some push ups that make a good player."
Jagtag
Craig Brown's comments are cringe worthy. Just watched it on sky sports news, I am embarrassed for the man From what he was saying I got the impression he didn't have a clue about Harper or his situation at Madrid. He appeared to think he was just one of the hundreds of kids Madrid give trials to before getting rid and bringing in another batch. He doesn't appear to know that he has signed a contract and plays for their youth side.
shaggycoo
Apparently Motte has been quoted in the Sun as saying that on the occasions he has watched Harper he has been very up and down, defending Sbragia decision not to include him. Even if that was the case it is surely a far better level than someone plying their trade in the 5th level of the English game!!!
John_B81
Aye Wotte claimed "cultural differences" are the reasons Harper hasn't performed as well in training. Well, try working with the lad given that he's only 19 and he can adapt. Very surprised at Wotte given that one of his parting shots when leaving was that he was finding it almost impossible getting certain coaches to adapt to the modern coaching methods. Third Lanark
You're as bad as sbragia!! I'm not - I want Harper selected; his size is an asset not a handicap.
Tartacus
Strange comments by Sbragia. Leaving a player out is not unusual but to actually produce a reason and a criticism of a young player seems weird. Is he testing the player's attitude? Also worrying that his tactics seem to be based on out running the opposition to get results. Isn't the youth level supposed to help develop players? I suppose we all want 'luxury' players who also run a lot and put in '110 %' but some players just aren't built like that. That doesn't mean they can't be highly effective. Perhaps Sbragia ought to peruse the Scottish athletics team if he wants powerful runners. Maybe Alan Wells can come in to help coach? I agree just because a young lad is at Real Madrid it shouldn't mean he automatically gets in the Scotland team but it shouldn't be used as a reason to exclude him either. I doubt Real Madrid will be poaching Sbragia to re vamp their youth departments.
Tartacus
I have emailed Harper's dad and said he needs to video Jack running up and down a mountain with a buffalo strapped to his back. We need some good young buffalo carriers coming through.
Goozay
It's a shocking quote from Sbragia. I blame Daryl Broadfoot.
wanderer
U19 playing right now, and already Austrians down to 10 men after hacking down a Scottish player in first 20 minutes..... Edited March 26, 2015 by wanderer

1320lichtie
Scotland winning 2 nil. Great beating Austria 2 nil by running around a lot in an under 19 game is much better than developing our best players for the first team
Auld_Reekie
Good result. Question now is whether our coaches see this as an endorsement of Sbragia's tactics. Why would he change this philosophy in future games/squads?

Stuart87
I am in agreement with everyone that these quotes from Ricky Sbragia are ridiculous but would it be right to say he has a very good reputation as a coach? I seem to recall reading or hearing that somewhere.

er yir macaroon
He picked a team to win u19 level and they duely did and fair play to those lads who will be good players. That doesn't mean to say those players with the ability to really kick on in a few years to come got a game. The u16 World Cup finalist squad was a team of cart horses and Sbragia's patter is a bit reminiscent of those times.
Jagtag
I've read an awful lot of negative shit about the rest of the boys playing and the result. More so on the SFA Facebook page. Some real bitter little people out there. yes we are all angry at Sbragia, more his comments and reasons than the fact he didn't pick Harper but there is still some very talented lads in the u19s representing Scotland and doing well. They deserve our support. I almost get the impression that some people wanted them to fail just to prove a point.
Caledonian Craig
I see what you are saying Jagtag and to a degree you certainly have a point. However, when we have a youngster playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world and doing well for their youth team and he gets snubbed and it hits the press that Spaniards are waiting to pounce then you know this lad has great talent - a talent that Sbragia is forcing away because he doesn't see talent.
