Bugger.... forgot to save all the tips from the last thread before the board went into liquidation!

Just hit the 'Archive Board' tab above - everything's still there, it's just shut to new posts, as far as I can tell.

Getting excited for this trip now! Now the Scotland games are out the way I can look forward to it. Got cage diving, a peninsula road trip to Cape Point and a hike up Table Mountain booked ?

Ferries look busy on for Robben Island though. Anyone know if it's easy enough to buy tickets on the day?

I dont think its easy enough - but some of the local travel companies block book i think , plus there is also returns

my friend was here with work last December and we rocked up and got a return ticket at the reception at departrue point - all though at that poimnt the big ferry was out of action - why not just book online now ?

weather is nice today

I tried to book up online for Robben Island with the company that I booked the other trips with but all ferries are showing 'fully booked'. I'll look online again and use another company. I'm sure I'll get something.

I checked the Robben Island site itself and looks busy - tell me your dates and i can ask at the booking office, where best to look

Looking forward to going to Cape Town for the first time at the end of a Feb/beginning of March.

Vineyard visits are high on my list, any suggestions of good ones would be appreciated :)

Went here last year - pretty swish. http://spier.mobi

That link doesn't look like it's going to work - if it doesn't, google ,,spier wine". There's one famous vinyard there that's surrounded by a sewer - I made a mental note not to drink it again, but promptly forgot!

McTeeko - a nice, safe(ish!) place to take the kids for the day would be Camps Bay - not too far from the V&A. If you get the chance to go to a Stormers home game, go. Not sure the Super XV will have started by then tho. When I went to Robben Island, I just pitched up, but it may be busier now. There's a Scottish bar (of sorts!) there - it's OK and has sport on.

I think I'd move there if I had the chance, at least for a few years. My girlfriend's from Joburg, but we'd both only move to Cape Town or thereabouts.

Cheers Duncan, all noted!

We've got a picnic booked at Spier on our last day rather than sit in the airport for a few hours. It was highly recommended by our rep but better hearing good reviews from a neutral

Ideal - there are plenty places for it and you'll be able to go for a walk or two. Or do some pre-flight wine-tasting and fill up the rest of your case with a couple of bottles that would cost a fortune over here.

They ken how to charge here eh?? £100 per head for New Year's Eve dinner?!?

Booked though, it's no every New Year you're here ?

Already done the Cape peninsula tour and cage diving with sharks the morn!

Hiking up Table Mountain in my kilt on New Years morning with my private guide then onto safari.

It's no looking good for Robben Island though as it's been fully booked for weeks - still hoping to get a cancelation though.

Great times!

sorry - i only got round to asking on Friday - told me the same - saying not much chance of tickets being handed back - although i still think its possible some trave agencies have tickets in hand for like say a day package (last december we picked up a returned ticket for my friend but was around 17th december i think )

yeh - we were looking to book restaurant for couple hours as well and they all wanted to sell you a 5 course type meal etc etc

Would I guess thats Baltezars you have booked ?

Aye we're in Baltezars on New Years Eve. I realise there will be much cheaper places but with the wee man being here it's a prime spot for a late night for him after fireworks.

Loads of restaurants are seafood and set menus of 5-8 courses(!!!). Baltezars at least is only 3 courses with steak options.

The concierge couldn't believe we didn't have anything booked for New Years Eve so we left it to him and he's booked restaurants for us for the next 3 nights :-D

Wee bit gutted about Robben Island. I'll get up early the morn and head to the ticket office to see if there is anything. If no, we'll do a chopper flight or bus tour or something :-)

That link isn't working on my phone but we're leaving for home on the 5th anyway from safari.

I'll try first thing tomorrow at the ticket office in the hope of cancellations but not expecting to get anything.
