Excellent musician, great songwriter, good voice.

One of my unashamed pleasures in life, as good as Paul Simon. Life wouldn't be complete without eithers music. :ok:

I'd rather eat my own cock than listen to Paul Simon. An ex-girlfriend of mine bought me Graceland in the 80s and if I was being honest I would have been happier if she had given me aids instead.

A man walks down the street

He says why am I soft in the middle now

Why am I soft in the middle

The rest of my life is so hard

I need a photo-opportunity

I want a shot at redemption

Don't want to end up a cartoon

In a cartoon graveyard

Bonedigger Bonedigger

Dogs in the moonlight

Far away my well-lit door

Mr. Beerbelly Beerbelly

Get these mutts away from me

You know I don't find this stuff amusing anymore

If you'll be my bodyguard

I can be your long lost pal

I can call you Betty

And Betty when you call me

You can call me Al

Unadulterated pap married to bland tunes.

Took me a long time to give Elton Johns music a chance..... Some really good stuff in the 70's (though I find "Goodbye Yellow brick road" not all what its cracked up to be) and there is one or two good things to be found from his 80's stuff.

But in general its a case of liking a song here and there.....

As for Paul Simon mentioned earlier, love his Simon & Garfunkel stuff, plus his first 3 solo albums (his first one and There Goes Rhymin' Simon... not so into "Still Crazy After All these Years", but its better than anything he has done since).... agree with TartanJon, I find Graceland very over rated, and Paul Simon is one of the worst that when he gets into a certain style of music, it takes him years to shake it off (and for live shows he will change his entire back catalogue to suit that style of music)

Homosexual = Child Molester. Everyone knows that.

Did Theresa May and other (Labour?) politicions not champion the rights of both at exactly the same time?

P.I.E. was it not?

And perhaps the KoP having seen a long run of celebrity arrests innocently thought this thread was another and it had nothing to do with Elton being gay.

Perhaps he did :ok:

:ok:

There is this weird equivalence thing in some people's minds I know. And this is why I raise PIE. If you can get (now senior) politicians thinking gay rights and child molestor rights are both equally worthy causes it shines a light on the confused nature of those times. How the did they convince themselves that was cool....hard to understand looking back now but that is just a measure of how much has already changed.

Harriet Harman?

Harriet Harman?

Aye it was Harman I was thinking of, not sure if May was also involved.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paedophile_Information_Exchange

You can read how intertwined it was with the gay rights movement at the time.

PIE was set up as a special interest group within the Scottish Minorities Group by founding member Michael Hanson, who became the group's first chairman. Since the majority of enquiries were from England, in 1975 PIE relocated to London, where 23-year-old Keith Hose became chairman.[2] The group's stated aim was "to alleviate [the] suffering of many adults and children" by campaigning to abolish the age of consent thus legalising sex between adults and children.[3]

Paedophile Action for Liberation had developed as a breakaway group from South London Gay Liberation Front. It was the subject of an article in the Sunday People, which dedicated its front page and centre-spread to the story. The result was intimidation of, and loss of employment for, some of those who were exposed. It later merged with PIE.[4

.....

Government funding

In March 2014, evidence emerged that PIE had received grants totalling £70,000 from the Home Office, after a whistleblower told police he witnessed a successful three-year grant renewal application for £35,000 in 1980, implying that a similar grant had been made in 1977.[16]

Affiliation to the NCCL

In 1976, in a submission to the Criminal Law Revision Committee, the NCCL asserted that “childhood sexual experiences, willingly engaged in, with an adult result in no identifiable damage” and that the Protection of Children Bill would lead to “damaging and absurd prosecutions”.[citation needed]

By 1978, PIE and Paedophile Action for Liberation had become affiliated to the National Council for Civil Liberties (now known as Liberty) with members attending meetings. The organisation campaigned against newspapers' treatment of the paedophilia activist groups.[citation needed] Whilst affiliated with NCCL, PIE also campaigned to reduce the age of consent and opposed the proposed banning of child pornography.

Whilst PIE was affiliated with it, the organisation argued for incest to be decriminalised[citation needed] and argued that photographs of undressed children should not be considered "indecent" - and therefore illegal - unless it could be proven that the subject had suffered harm or that an inference to that effect or to the effect that harm might have been caused could reasonably be drawn from the images themselves, with Harriet Harman (later deputy leader of the Labour Party) arguing that it would “increase censorship”.[17] In May 1978, according to MagPIE, NCCL motions were passed supporting PIE's rights and the annual meeting went on to condemn 'attacks' against paedophiles and their supporters, saying "this AGM condemns the physical and other attacks on those who have discussed or attempted to discuss paedophilia, and reaffirms the NCCL's condemnation of harassment and unlawful attacks on such persons."[2]

NCCL had excluded PIE by 1983.[18]

In February 2014, Shami Chakrabarti, the director of Liberty, issued an apology for the previous links between the NCCL and the PIE. She said: "It is a source of continuing disgust and horror that even the NCCL had to expel paedophiles from its ranks in 1983 after infiltration at some point in the seventies."[19]

Seen Reg live twice, for free!

2003 I was working in Budapest and he played a free gig in the middle of the city. 2005 I was working in Bratislava and he did the same.

Enjoyable gigs but he was clearly long past his best. Now sounds like a Vic Reeves pub singer version of Elton John.

No doubting the greatness of many of his old records though. That BBC4 documentary recently on his 70s albums was excellent.

Saw Elton John at the Playhouse many many years ago, think it was the first concert STV showed live. It was just him and a piano, no backing music at all and he was absolutely fantastic

His early stuff from the 70s and 80s is quite good but once he came off the charlie started blinking about with the Lion King and Princess Di he lost his way considerably.

Totally agree with you
