saintlyscot
Maybe no surprise but was amazed to speak to two soldiers recently who offered an insight into the forces high heid yins take pre rreferendum. Both are born and bred Scots. The first was a guy in his late twenties who was an officer but was about to leave the army. He told how he was always told history from a London perspective as part of his training and that young soldiers under his command were told to follow party line. He added that in th event of a YES vote he was going to leave the country! The other guy was a young soldier who was home on leave from one of the Scottish bases. When asked how he voted and if the army had any influence he said that they were advised in no uncertain terms to vote NO. The iintelligence given was that particularly in the short term Scotland would be a target for terrorism and countries like Russia! Jesus Wept. I didn't know who to feel more sorry for. Just shoes the type of establishment bias which still infiltrates companies and organisations. Would be good to get some other takes on this especially from forces personnel. Ormond
I think anyone who joins up to fight illegal wars in the name of a scrounging bitch in London can't be that right in the napper anyway.

Aye. Look at the abject failure and chaos that Bliar and Bush have left with their foreign policy. Detracts attention from domestic defects. I know in number of votes it us a relatively small number but reminds me of the total blank of Scottish history during my school years. Something which thankfully seems to have been rectified post 1997.

I can well imagine the Army pulling that kind of shite on the youngsters, but not something I encountered in the RAF. I've even got a Yes saltire in my office which has been up since about July last year and it's staying there

Definitely got zero Scottish history at your friendly neighbouring secondary school when I was there.

Absolutely not the case in the RN. I know a few people, me included, who voted Yes, and were under no pressure whatsoever to vote differently.
