He's hardly been prolific this calendar year though. 13 goals of which a couple were penalties. I can't comment on his general play as I've not seen him, and 13 goals isn't terrible, but by his own goalscoring standards he hasn't been banging them as frequently. Chris Martin has scored 19 in the same period for comparison. I do like him but I can see where strachan is coming from just now. Hopefully Rhodes finally gets a move in the next window.

The problem with Rhodes is he is not good playing as a lone striker but when we change it to a more 442 formation then I think him and fletch would be fantastic together

He won't change the system just to suit an individual though. I think he will only have squad strikers who are capable of playing the lone role or linking from midfield.

Jordan Rhodes is one dimensional. Being a Scotland striker requires more than just the ability to put the ball in the net. As S.Fletcher had shown in his last few performances.

But, yes, we could certainly do with a reliable goalscorer. Rhodes, McCormack and C.Martin are never going to be that guy. They may score a decent amount in the championship, but there is a reason they ply their trade there. Whereas, the superior, Fletcher and Naismith are playing in the premier league, despite scoring fewer goals.

To answer your question, Tony Watt has a lot of strings to his bow. He could be the one. Stevie May also has shown he is more than just a goalscorer. They are probably the 2 most likely to break through in the next 2 years. But there are plenty of younger guys not far behind.

Our problem is that we concede soft goals, the 2 german goals were avoidable as was polands first, and against England. the likes of the irish rarely lose such goals. So if we cut out stupid mistakes we would be sitting pretty on 9 points

It's one thing we're lacking.

The teams we're competing with all have someone with an eye for goal.

Ireland have Keane, Poland have Lewandoski can even mention Muller for the Germans now that they've been dragged into things.

That's exactly it, most other nations have someone who is guaranteed a goal most games where we lack that luxury. In my lifetime, 26 years, the most prolific forward would be Kenny Miller with 18(top of my head) goals

I was on here a couple of years ago shouting about Rhodes (Jordan RhodesHeScoresGoals as I call him). He was 21/22 then.

Blackburn was a car crash of club when he made, IMO, a disappointing move. It was still a step up after his spectacular Huddersfield exploits as a 19-21 yo, and here's how he resounded (any doubters, invest 4 minutes of your time in "A Season with Jordan RhodesHeScoresGoals").

Strachan said at his first Q&A that we just do not create the chances for our strikers.... he mentioned the bigger nations have the system in place that 1 chance can equal 1 goal, whereas we have to be putting in 50+ chances into the box for our strikers to get on the end of to create one goal.

That was over a year ago he said that, and I think things are starting to click into place that the goals will come.

Problem is, Strachans style is defend from the front almost..... look at Griffiths in Zagreb, he wasn't put there to score goals, but just get stuck in to the Croatians and chase after every ball to keep it up the park.

This has continues somewhat under Fletcher, as he just seems to be failing to get himself into scoring chances, yet holding the ball up to create chances for others.

I do not think Strachan will turn us into a team who will beat teams 3/4-0, but got us playing in a way that we make all our goals count when it matters at the end of 90 minutes.

The current system is a lot more sophisticated than the one Kenny Miller had to slog his guts out for.
