davew
Discovered this list on wikipedia, thought it was quite interesting. List of players who've won just 1 cap in the last 10 years. Stevie May 18 November 2014 Johnny Russell 18 November 2014 Craig Forsyth 28 May 2014 Gary Mackay-Steven 15 November 2013 Liam Bridcutt 26 March 2013 Murray Davidson 14 November 2012 Liam Kelly 14 November 2012 Andrew Shinnie 14 November 2012 Ian Black 15 August 2012 Mark Wilson 9 February 2011 Cammy Bell 16 November 2010 Steven Saunders 16 November 2010 Stephen Hughes 10 October 2009 Ross Wallace 10 October 2009 Darren Barr 20 August 2008 Robbie Neilson 11 October 2006 What happened to Murray Davidson, or Andrew Shinnie, or Darren Barr? Who is Liam Kelly? How did Mark Wilson manage to play for Celtic and yet never win more than 1 cap? Who'll be the next one to win a cap? deecie
I'd like to see Shinnie get more caps.
macy37
Wilson signed today for Dumbarton and I thought the same.....what happened and 1 cap. He was a decent, sold full back when he was on the scene.
harrystarfish
Thought David Clarkson was missing from your list but I see he got a 2nd cap. Mind him coming on for his debut in Prague and scoring past Cech in that friendly.
ErsatzThistle
How did Mark Wilson manage to play for Celtic and yet never win more than 1 cap? Mark Wilson was injured a lot of the time during his first couple of years at Celtic and we also had had Alan Hutton, Graham Alexander and Gary Naysmith ahead of him for Scotland anyway. He only became a Celtic regular during the 2008/09 season and really should have got a couple of run outs for Scotland but for some reason Burley kept ignoring him and preferred to give chances to Kirk Broadfoot and Callum Davidson. Another belter of a decision from Burley. Sometimes I'm convinced Vogts, Burley and Levein just picked guys at random out of a hat when it came to player selection. Played well in his only cap against Northern Ireland. Nearly forced an og from one of their players. Wilson had been playing well for Celtic at that point. Unfortunately he got injured soon after that and began to fade away at Celtic.
ProudScot
Shinnie is good. Still young enough to win more caps but so many players ahead of him
deecie
Shinnie is good. Still young enough to win more caps but so many players ahead of him Can't see him being at Caley much longer. I'd imagine a massive club will be in for him soon.
Robroysboy
Mark Wilson was injured a lot of the time nickname was sicknote. lol
ErsatzThistle
nickname was sicknote. lol Aye, the first two and a half seasons he was at Celtic, the thing about Wilson was that he'd play two or three weeks then be out injured for a month, play another two or three weeks then out injured again. A few decent Scottish players seem to be like that unfortunately.

adamntg
Wilson was worth a cap when he was with United. He was outstanding as a teenager, we tried to build our team round a young full back, generally because the rest of them were hopeless. Was sure he'd get 20+ caps when he moved to the Old Firm but just never happened. Will always like him. adamntg
Also, can't believe Bridcutt has only one cap. And that Garry Kenneth had more than one and ended up at Carsnootie by the time he was 27. Bizarre.

He wasn't Maldini but he could surely do a job in the top two leagues, surely?

I see him from time to time at Carnoustie whenim down for my game, he is away out to Australia soon. Signed for a division 2 team.

the Sunnylaw Jag
Quite obscure here but in October 1949 Henry Morris of East Fife scored a hat trick for Scotland against Northern Ireland in an 8-2 win and never played again. Another cracker is Joe Craig ex-Thistle but capped when a Celtic player coming on as a sub and scoring a goal before he even kicked a ball. A header of course, in a 3-1 win against Sweden in April 1977. His only cap.

Jim McCall of Celtic and Hibs, plus Hughie Ferguson of Motherwell and Cardiff are still two of the highest ever league goal scorers in Scottish football history and both never even played once for their country. And we think we have it bad today with the SFA ! Imagine how our Great-Grandfathers must have felt.

In fairness it was Willie Ormond's last game in charge, Ally McLeod came in next with his own ideas...
Squirrelhumper
Liam Kelly been blighted with injuries since leaving Killie. Still fairly young. At Oldham now. Think he's captain. Cammy Bell not get the one cap?
deecie
Cammy Bell not get the one cap? He was in goals against the Faroes at Pittodrie for sure, along with a Killie defender who i've forgotten.

Snapperone
What happened to Darren Barr? He left Falkirk - whom he was playing with when he got capped - to sign for Hearts. It was the football equivalent of chucking Scarlett Johansson to shack up with Nora Batty. No wonder he never got capped again. He then went to Killie and is now at Ross County.
