I would rather that they loaned him out to another Portuguese team for experience of that league or even Spain.

Me too.

A return to the UK on loan seems a backward step IMO after the progressive move to Europe for a young Scottish talent.

Partick Thistle centre half, Jack Hendry set to sign for Everton. Seen him play once and he looks like a total dude but he's only played 3 games for us!

If true I hope the Jags put a 10% sell on clause in the contract.

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club has transferred midfielder Shaun Maloney to English Championship side Hull City A.F.C. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"It’s tough to see a player of his quality leave but you have to take the human aspect of sport into consideration," said Chicago Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. "I’m pleased that the club, Andrew Hauptman, myself and Brian Bliss were able to find a solution that worked for all parties involved and I wish Shaun nothing but the best.”

The Scottish international joined the Fire as a Designated Player on Jan. 25, 2015 from Wigan Athletic.

“This was a very difficult decision to make but one that I felt I needed to make for various reasons," Maloney said. "I’d like to thank Andrew Hauptman and Frank Yallop for the initial hard work they put into bring me to Chicago in January. Although my time at the club was brief, I feel very fortunate for the experience to play for the Chicago Fire and would like to thank in particular my teammates for the time I spent with them and hope that in the future the club can become successful on the pitch once again."

Maloney made his Fire debut in the season opener against the LA Galaxy on March 6. Maloney tallied three goals and added two assists in 14 league matches. The Scottish international additionally made three appearances in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, helping the Fire reach the semifinal round for the third consecutive year.

not a lot of love for maloney from the Chicago fire fans. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/maloney-signs-for-the-fire.2015860/page-11

apparently Maloney engineered the move back. I despair at how bad Scottish players bottle it when playing abroad.

I thought I had read that Chicago said he was coming back for family reasons? That's hardly "engineering" a move home.
